If it's some young(ish) talented lad that has potential to work his way into the team long term then fine.

I'm thinking someone like Josip Sutalo? Zeno Debast? Nico Schlotterbeck? Pierro Hincapie?

Shiver me Timbers...

Sources: Liverpool make Timber signing decision after £30m Arsenal offer
Liverpool have elected not to rival Arsenal for the signature of Jurrien Timber this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Let me guess, we don't want to start a bidding war that'll inevitably end up seeing us embarrassing ourselves once Arsenal get him for 45m and we deem that "too expensive"

Or we never were interested in him

Timber = talent worth paying for. Like Gakpo was.

Watch Arsenal get him for 35-40m inc add ons.

Anyway if we are serious for a CB, there are plenty out there for 30-35m we could attract.....mentioned a few names in this thread last night....all good options.

Yeah that's Olof's kid. He's still not there yet, but he's promising.

He made the perfect next step. He's going to play in Austria's second division for at least half a season and will then play for RB Salzburg.

Massive talent I've been told.

Not the least bit bothered by VDV, this probably means he’s either staying at Wolfsburg or off to Bayern.

Chelsea. It will be Chelsea. For god knows what reason they'll buy him, but they'll get it done.

Can you imagine the shit Todd Boehly would buy if you let him loose in Costco or Aldi with the company credit card!!!

Kostas Tsimikas knows ideal Virgil van Dijk heir as Liverpool should take note of transfer
Liverpool may need to look alternative transfer markets to sign Virgil van Dijk's heir and that could lead Jürgen Klopp to Kostas Tsimikas' Greece for an ideal defender.

VIRGIL VAN DIJK QUESTIONS TEAM-MATES AFTER KYLIAN MBAPPE NIGHTMARE | INTERNATIONAL BREAK

A footballer's career is fleeting. As Liverpool is beginning to learn, players cannot go on forever. Change as in every avenue of life is inevitable in football as well.
Already Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool side has undergone quite a bit of transition in terms of saying goodbye to club icons like James Milner and Roberto Firmino this summer. But there will be more on the horizon soon with one of the biggest question marks for Liverpool to solve that being Virgil van Dijk's successor.

The Dutchman has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world during the height of his prime and replacing him with a player just as capable of dominating opposition attackers won't be easy.

Instead, Liverpool will have to look at the example of teams like Napoli who operate with relatively meager finances yet can achieve a lot of success with smart recruitment.
Recently, Napoli replaced Kalidou Koulibaly, who was regarded as irreplicable quite effectively through the form of Kim Min-jae, who arrived from a much smaller and less active market for top five league clubs in Turkey.

Kim Min-jae's example could pave the way for Liverpool to do a similar experiment, but instead of Turkey, the club should look at Van Dijk's ideal future heir in Greece instead.
At PAOK there is an interesting center-back candidate who might just be a bit of an under-the-radar gem Liverpool could pick up on the cheap. Kostas Tsimikas' international teammate for the Greek senior national team, Konstantinos Koulierakis, is a player well worth keeping an eye on.

Already a regular at just 19 years old at PAOK, he is a left-sided center-back who is comfortable on the ball averaging a whopping 61 passes per 90 as per Wyscout, and who is relatively quick in terms of his recovery speed which would make him well-suited to play in a high line.
Like Van Dijk, Koulierakis is also strong in the air and can dominate his opponents. For aerial duels won he ranks in the top five among center-backs in the league winning 74 per cent of his challenges, which is a pretty solid return.Still very raw and yet to play in a European competition, Koulierakis, of course, isn't quite ready to step up into Van Dijk's role just yet. But in the coming years as he develops and progresses as a footballer, he could emerge as an ideal candidate and Liverpool should keep a close eye on his progress. As per Fotomac, right now he is attracting interest from Fenerbahçe, which could see Koulierakis follow in the footsteps of the aforementioned Kim if he makes the move. That could give Liverpool more assurance that he would be an ideal candidate to succeed Van Dijk at Anfield in the future by being able to maintain a high level of performance in Turkey as well.

I'll be honest I know very little about them but they're all young and most importantly homegrown with contracts ending 2024

the 2nd is Lloyd Kelly. The clips that are uploaded on Youtube are old. Plau CB of LB but was plagued with injury is the season before lasrt

And finally Taylor Wood-Bells. Played for Burnley last season

Admit it ; you're just making up names now.

they might have if arsenal and united didn't spend big. Now the pressures off for FFP

I think the player would have to push for a move for it to get done. Only 2 years left on his deal. Chelsea want insane money for him so its probably one we walk away from I'm guessing. Shame as he could be fantastic.

It sounds like Saka a few years ago. Highly rated young player we sniff around, the contract scenario might provide a little opening but ultimately they sign up and become fantastic for their current club.
