Yes he does. Four CBs are a must, he's fourth choice, he's not THAT bad and you're not going to get better than him that far down the pecking order at any club.

Exactly. I think some people won't be happy unless we have Baresi and Beckenbauer in their primes as our 7th choice centre back pairing.

You have a point, but considering injuries are forcing us to play them it's important that they actually be good.

The 'what do you expect for a 4th choice CB' doesn't wash when they're actually getting games.
[/quote]

It'll have to wash, Avvy, because there's also the question of what else one can expect for a measly £2 mill.

I don't accept that Kyrgiakos is that bad anyway. If we were flying when he came into the side, he'd have been fine.

So Skrtel is shite now? When did this happen? He might not have started the season too well but he is a long way from shite.

Regarding our current CB problems, I've always been a fan of Carra's (whilst realising he is not quite world class) and I am huge fan of Aggers. The problem for me is that the Carra/Agger partnership is quite good but they still don't gel 100%, the Carra/Skrtel partnership is quite good defensively but they are quite similar in many ways and aren't very adaptable. Zorba is a decent 4th choice.

I have, for some time, had a feeling that the partnership that might work best would be the Skrtel/Agger one and I wouldn't be surprised if it worked exceedingly well. We'll get the chance to see how well it works whilst Carra serves his suspension and then, if we don't concede many/any during his abscence we'll see how brave Rafa can be by telling Carra he's not getting back into the team.

We may get the chance if they're not hobbling around a treatment room somewhere
