And John Henry. He was pretty unequivocal.

Listening to Gerrard after the match though, he knows he's off. We need top 4 again this season though and it is realistic.

United are vulnerable. Spurs are far weaker and Arsenal have been shown up a bit recently. Chelsea aren't ticking but will undoubtedly be up there. City are nailed on though.

What did Gerrard say/do to make you think that he knows Suarez is off?

He was basically saying that he deserves to be in the CL and challenging for honours.

I still don't think it's a given that he'll stay if we qualify, he wants to be in a team that can challenge on both fronts and it will take time to achieve.

Was just going on about how it's inevitable that the big boys will come calling and that we have to enjoy him while we have him.

Slyness was saying that Real Madrid was the obvious choice. A front 3 of him, Ronaldo and Bale is pretty terrific. Hope it never happens though.

Yeah I have my doubts too. However if we win the league, he can't leave, surely?

Hopefully he's so happy at the moment that he'll sign a new contract. I'd break the bank to keep him.
If we get top 4 I think he'll stay.

Nah, if one of the big boys come in for him he's off like a shot.

It's a little bit like the Gerrard situation in 2005. The only way to give ourselves a fighting chance of keeping our star player is to pull off a feat so ridiculous he can't possibly leave us - we need to win the league.

Gerrards book is illuminating in that regard. All we needed to do was match Chelsea's 120k a week.

I think Suarez's situation is different though, money may not matter so much

Yeah, you could be right mate. But a genuine title challenge, top 4 and a 200k contract could be enough.
It probably depends on who comes in for him. If Real wants him he's gone.

Messi and Ronaldo have been playing in better teams that Suarez. Makes life easier for them. (not trying to take anything from them as both are fantastic players).

I actually think this emphasises their quality. They have a harder time standing out from such teammates, so the fact that they still manage to do so tells you a lot.

As I said - both are fantastic players. What I meant to say is that playing in quality teams helps them better express their talents: their teams normally have more possession of the ball near the opposition area, they get the ball in danger areas, their passes are to other quality players which can convert them etc. while Suarez has to do much more on his own.

Another factor is that all 3 have the team built around them.

Still early for Bale but he's not at the level he was at last season.

I wonder if Suarez were to go whether his new teammates would be so accommodating in always trying to find him.

Depends where he might go, but I doubt they would at Real.

Incidentally Bale got a perfect hat-trick (right foot, left foot, header) the other day. If he keeps that up, goodness knows what level he might reach.

Jeez..... FIFA might have to invents new qualification systems so that Wales can qualify for the World Cup.

Roy/Rafa/Kenny/Brendan4PM will be happy
