Car Insurance

I insured my car lately online and the quote I got was decent. I wasn't sure what my no claims bonus was as and my previous insurers Quinn have since closed while I was out of the country. Liberty took them over so I rang Liberty and they informed me that it had six years no claims bonus. I inputted six years on my online claim and got my quote from Liberty and paid in full. I since got my insurance disc.

However, I got a letter from them asking me to prove my no claims discount. This is standard I know but I'm with the company that took over my previous insurers so I presumed they had an in house policy to recognise this. I rang them and the girl on the phone was great and said not to worry they would get the info from the system and cross it over. Hold for one moment and job done etc.

I was put on hold but she returned to inform me that my no claims bonus expires after two years. It had been two years and one month so I was reverting back to zero and I would be notified about the increase in my premium. I asked her could it be waived as I was barely over the two years and I was returning to the same company. I was also out of the country and did't leave for a competitor etc. Sadly there was nothing she could do. I asked if I could get someone to call me back to see if they were in a position to let it slide and retain a customer. Otherwise I will go back and shop around again. I'm annoyed because a person from Liberty told me six years no claim bonus when I originally rang and didn't inform me that it had expired at the time.

Have I any bargaining power here? People in work told me that their no claims bonus doesn't expire for three years with a rival company. If I switch to them will I keep my no claims bonus? Or does it expire regardless because that was my insurer's policy?
