Captain Lovren (a rumour...)

We don't have anyone worthy except Lucas

Worthy? That's a rather vague term. Clearly Henderson isn't exactly the most inspirational LFC captain, but he makes more sense than Lovren, who has only just showed he is worthy of a place in the team, never mind become captain. And that's not a given, either.

As for Lucas, why on earth would he be made captain? He can't even get a game as a midfielder and is now effectively fourth-choice CB.

Milner, assuming he'll continue to play regularly. I can't think of anyone else. Coutinho? Help him to mature his game and give him a reason to cement his future here? I'm not sure he's vocal enough but he's arguably our best player and the one who should be dictating games.

Klopp can do whatever he wants, but I don't like this for 2 reasons:
  1. Lovren's ugly episode with the national team doesn't fill me with confidence that he is a team-oriented player who can handle conflict and adversity.
  2. This would mean Lovren is a guaranteed starter alongside Matip. I have nothing against Lovren starting, but I think he should win his spot in a competition with Sakho, Matip and Gomez, not being given it on the basis of the captaincy.

Agree with all of the above

I was (I thought obviously) joking.

Although I would definitely hold onto Lucas.

We really have f*ck ll captain material at the club at the moment.

Note also Lovren's reaction to the Southampton fans' baiting when Klopp had to sub him off because his head had gone.

Dreamy, I'm afraid any "assume I was joking" site privileges you may once have had are long gone; burned, ravaged, and the Earth upon which it stood now salted.

Shout out for coutinho. Seems silly but...
1) Terrorizes teams on a good day
2) World class material and hardly injured
3) Works supremely hard and eggs team on when properly motivated
4) Bonus: Plays football
5) Don't want to lose him

1) Terrorizes teams on a good day - isn't that often
2) World class material and hardly injured - world class potential does not mean he'll reach it
3) Works supremely hard and eggs team on when properly motivated - does he shite.
4) Bonus: Plays football - most footballers do
5) Don't want to lose him - I'd rather lose him than undermine other players

I'd rather fucking lovren

Also, welcome!

There's fuck all captaincy material in our squad. Closest is milner I'd say. Everyone else is either shite, egotistical or have comparable leadership skills to a rotted bit of flotsam

Do you think he will take it off Henderson? Be quite surprising given the lack of obvious other candidates. It's hardly Hyypia/ Gerrard is it?
Depends on if Henderson is gonna feature for him regularly. I thought it was hilarious when arteta was arsenal Captain but dead for a majority of his time there

The sensible thing for me would be to give it to milner. He will feature heavily and... Let's be honest, he was captain for practically all of klopps time with the team

Unless klopp wants to throw one of the new boys in as captain. Be a good way to set out a pecking order and command immediate respect

Matip could be a decent shout.

Maybe we'll buy an older player who might be perfect

Agreed. After reading about the incident with the national team I can understand Lovren though, but as you say it doesnt reflect him as a team player.

Its gonna be Lovren though if the folks on Twitter are to be believed. SCM is gonna be a crazy place when/if its announced.
Klopp obviously sees something there if he makes that change. Can only trust his judgement.

I'm not sure about that. I don't think anyone is particularly arsed, given the paucity of options. It's hardly as if Henderson has universal support as a player, never mind captain.

True, but Lovren seem to divid the fan group on a whole other scale then Henderson.

He didn't divide really. He was fucking shite when he first arrived, everyone agreed about that. And then improved. But he's still very prone to horrible errors.

None of our CBs are good enough.

He was awful the first year but has been very good since Klopp arrived. That development under Klopp seem to divide our fans.

We used to have (~6-7 years ago?) a team of captains, where just about every player was captain of their national side (senior or U21) or had been captain at the club we bought them from. Still didnt win anything ....

'On a good day' - teams need a captain most on a bad day. A good captain, in any sport, has a positive impact even when he's personally out of form.

'Eggs team on when properly motivated' - You need a captain who is ALWAYS properly motivated.

I would have thought communication was a real key skill for a captain. Lovren can hardly communicate with his keeper or defensive partner let alone the full team. No, I say...No.
