Captain Lovren (a rumour...)

So apparently there is a rumour doing the rounds that Klopp is considering making Dejan Lovren his captain.

Have any of the Liverpool based lads heard this one? Is there any truth in it whatsoever?

Hypothetically speaking, would you be happy with the change? Would you even make the change in the first place (i.e. have Henderson and Milner done enough to convince you?)?

If you would make the change (and you don't want Lovren) who of the current squad would be your captain for the new season?

IMO if Klopp would change Captain then he would have done it already and I can't see Henderson staying if Klopp make a change. Hyypiä accepted it without any problem when Gerrard was made Captain but that was the local lad Gerrard and that is a different scenario.

Can will probably be the real Captain, the player Klopp give his instructions to etc.

Hendo isn't great captain material (who is?) but he's way ahead of Lovren in most peoples estimations. Lovren had a good season last time out, but he still has some chronic flaws.

As an aside, if this is true then I guess that puts question marks over alot of players futures.

So has every manager before him, it doesn't make the decision correct though..

We as fans wont see a lot of the daily work, dressing room and general off the pitch behaviour though.
If Klopp selects Lovren, fine.
Will be interesting to see what happens and if there is a change.

Of the current squad - whichever of Milner or Henderson is on the pitch should wear the armband. The decision was made to make Henderson captain and unless there is truly an outstanding new candidate (there isn't ), it makes no sense to strip him of it. He shouldn't be an automatic starter but usually either him or Milner will be playing and they should be the co-captains, similar to last year. On current evidence Lovren belongs nowhere near the discussion.

Do you think Henderson and Milner have done enough or would you be looking for a change? Are there any leaders left in the squad?

I'd be looking for change if we suddenly had a Souness-type arriving, but this is an England-style bunch of gutless wimps. Out of that group, I can't see anyone outstanding. Can, maybe, might grow into the job, but that's about it.

He was our best defender last season. A huge improvement over the previous one. He did put himself about and took charge of situations with some towering defensive headers.

I suspect his renewed commitment and putting himself about for the team has impressed Klopp. Perhaps he worked really hard to improve himself, and Klopp has acknowledged that, who knows?

He is playing well and he is a sure starter next season. Together with Milner, Can and Clyne one of them should be the Captain.

Can's a bit young but yah, he seems to be the natural successor to Henderson in terms of leadership (I don't see him leaving if he's demoted).

Henderson isn't captain material for me, but it's hard to identify anyone in the squad that currently is. I'd be up for giving Lovren a go at if IF he maintains his form

It was said by some when we signed Lovren that his defensive leadership was one of the reasons why we'd gone in for him. I'm far from convinced that he's captaincy material but, as with other choices we have to make for next season and beyond, I'm OK with giving it a go if it's what Klopp wants.

Or maybe Matip. Good English speaker and leads from the front.

Who gives a fuck.
Captains do fuck all.

He's obsessed with himself and hasn't shown any leadership qualities whatsoever.

Most footballers are in fairness. He SEEMS very popular amongst his team-mates. Not saying he should be made Captain or anything but not sure why Lovren supposedly being obsesses, but with himself is an issue.

The way he went nuts at Southampton when their fans got on his back suggests his temperament is pretty suspect. If we're going to take the role of captain seriously, then the man who does it has got to be trusted to stay calm and composed no matter what the circumstances. He's either got to block out that sort of barracking, or relish it. That's twice now that Lovren's completely lost the plot against his old side.

Where in the team and alongside who?

I can't see him starting ahead of Can and Henderson. Don't get me wrong I like Milner, valuable member of any squad and one of a few experienced players we have etc.
Henderson shouldn't have a starting slot next season. With Mane and at least one more midfielder to come, you'd hope/expect they will both be starters and not squad fillers. I'd start Milner ahead of Hendo any day of the week too.
