..that I reckon there's a good chance Glen Johnson could turn out to be the buy of the Season in England.

I'm so thrilled with this signing that it's unreal.

That's all.

'Buy of the season' is usually reserved for a bargain player who flourishes for the entire season, and is usually in the attacking positions.

However I am delighted he's here, I just hope we've got enough cash in reserve to bring in a decent LW.

Well, so far, his only competition is Gareth Barry, Carlos Tevez, Daniel Sturridge and Roque Santa Cruz. I'm sure we'll see a few more signings by PL clubs before the end of the summer. By which time, the likelihood of Johnson being 'the buy of the season' may have receded.

Personally, I hope he's not even the buy of OUR season.

£18M could turn out to be a 'bargain' if you consider the following;

- He could be our RB for now and for many future Seasons to come.

- He's going to improve our overall attacking-game. I reckon Torres will score at least ten goals this coming season with his head due to vastly improved crosses into the box.

- He'll give us more pace.

- If we win the Premiership and Johnson is seen as an integral part of the team.

By the way, for me, Torres was a real bargain although he didn't exactly come 'cheap'.

with insua and johnson we have argubly the quickest fullbacks in the league.

Are you sure?

Arsenal's got quite a few sprinters on their FB-positions if I'm not mistaken.

But you're right, we're adding some much needed pace to the side and that makes the immediate need for pacey wingers less desperate.

Kuyt can stay Kuyt.

arsenal have sanga and clique(sp) johnson is definately quicker than both of them. insua is definately quick as well. this will really help when we went to push up the pitch.

You're having a giraffe mate. Stop with the hyperbole. I know you've got a penchant for attacking full backs, but Clichy isn't only one of quickest full backs in the league, he's one of the quickest players full stop.. and Sagna's quicker than Insua (who isn't THAT quick anyway).

I rather doubt Johnson is quicker than Clichey. Either way, as a unit, Sagna, Clichey, Gibbs and Traore are much much faster than our lot.

johnson is definately quicker than clichy. whilst insua IS quick, I didn't say he was quicker than clichy but I do think he is faster than sagna.

'Laugh', I think.

As for JOhnson, I hope he does well here.

But wishful thinking suggesting that he could be the bargain of the season.

More a case of desperately hoping he's worth as much as we (over) paid.

The fact that it's cockney rhyming slang just makes it worse.

I did say "usually".

Unless a truly special player joins the top four, the award often goes to the Giovanni's & Cahill's of this world. It's extremely unlikely a £17M right back will be up for the award because at that fee he's under pressure to have a stellar season anyway.

'Buy of the season' is for a player who contributed significantly more than their transfer fee, and I just can't see how Johnson could achieve that.

Insua never looks that quick to me. Maybe its because he looks like hes carrying abit of weight. Hes got that little stocky argie thing going on.

He doesn't look very quick because he isn't.

There's a lot of pressure on him next year; especially when Aurelio gets injured for 3+ months.

I just hope he's ready, because the LB position fills me with much more anxiety than having a forth CB

If he helps to contribute at least 10 points (goals, assists) that help us win the league title, then he's the buy of the season.

Oh, and however good he turns out, £17m for a right back is not going to be the buy of the season.

Discounting inflation it means he's 34 times better than markus babbel and rob jones combined!

there is a difference between babel/torres quick and skrtel/insua quick. the former is shit off a shovel the latter is no where near as quick but still quick. like rooney, he (rooney) isn't shit off a shovel but he is still quick.
