Which players do you think were here for too little a time for one reason or another.
I'll start with one Vegard Heggem. I thought he was a fucking magic wee player.

Theres a few like Ince, Reidle, Litmanen, Pellebastard who were class players but we saw the tail end of that.

Anelka for sure.

I think Mark Gonzalas too, considering all we went through to get him in the first place, I don't think we really gave him a fair crack, he done well in the WC over the summer. I think he could have been a good player for us.

All of Sounes' clearout, he fucked our System of bedding in replacements in one fell swoop, and even now 20 years later we still haven't recovered.

David Speedie Blackburn £500,000 Aug 1991
Peter Beardsley Everton £1,000,000 05.08.1991
Steve Staunton Aston Villa £1,100,000 07.08.1991
Gary Gillespie Celtic £900,000 15.08.1991
Jimmy Carter Arsenal £500,000 08.10.1991
Steve McMahon Man City £900,000 24.12.1991

Robbie Keane. The reason I think he was here for too little time is because we didn't find a replacement for him.

Insua - I rated him and thought he still had time to grow into the position. Great going forward but needed more work on his positioning.

Anelka - big time!

Had I known it'd be almost 2 years and running waiting for a decent replacement, I would have rather we kept him too.

Speedie scored a league game every TWO matches.

Anyway its the big change I am referring too, not the players per se.

It fucked up the System we had of bedding in players and keeping 'the machine' going we never ever achieved as before. (20 years on still waiting for 19)

He also got rid of Houghton Ablett and Venison in the 6 months after.

I blame him for wrecking the club, getting rid of the boot room, fucking up the whole 'This is Anfield' we are special factor.

Any takers for Moriantes?

Anyone?

I thought not...

Peter Crouch?

I think Cisse's time was too brief as well. He didn't play much although he was here for two years.

I would have liked for Arbeloa to stay on as well.

Bellamy and Anelka are the two who got away for me. We'd have been a completely different side over the past few years if we'd kept them, I think.

Warnock. We sold him at the wrong time.

He would have been a very useful backup.

Warnock would be an ideal reserve left back for a top team. Unfortunately we sold him and replaced him with first team left backs Insua & Konch who weren't even as good as him.

I'd rather have kept Riise.

Robbie Keane, Anelka, but most of all, one of the best ball players I've ever seen, Jari Olavi Litmanen,

Some say his body was battered or he was on the tail end of his career with us, but that's just silly. Nearly 10 fecking years after leaving us, he's still playing week in week out and is STILL a full international (scored a goal last month).

I dream of a team of Lithmanen's!

I'm too biased to comment on Litmanen so Babbel is the one who stands out. What a player and isn't it just our luck he gets a fucking one in a million disease while at his peak.

Anelka is an obvious choice too, what a major cock up by Ged that was. Oh and Rob Jones(although he was here for quite a while).

Riedle and Gary Mc are two who I'd have loved to have longer but also part of their magic is just that we only had them for a short time.

Asbo, whatever about Speedie, who I quite liked but was stunned to see signed by us, I can't believe you're saying Jimmy Carter!!

There was fuck all "magic" about Riedle

Yeah I guess. He was just one of my favourite players even prior to joining so I have always had a soft spot for him.

I just cut and pasted the clear out gene, I didn't bother editing, it was more to show what damage he did by a big clearout, rather than the players themselves.

We used to 'slot' players in, and you couldn';t tell the difference because it was done so well, it worked for years and years, Souness changed all that, we haven't 'slotted' anyone in since we last won the league!

THATS what I was trying to bring to the equation anyway.
