has joined Leicester on loan.

Who would have thunk?

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is set to join Leicester on loan.

Kirkland has made just one appearance for Wigan since August and that came when on-loan keeper Ali Al Habsi was ineligible to face Bolton.

A move to home-town club Leicester has been mooted in recent weeks and the deal is likely to be completed before Thursday's deadline.

Illness has held up the switch to the Walkers Stadium and Martinez believes it is important for Kirkland to play first-team football.

"Things have been delayed by Chris' bug, but we will be sitting down to have a chat about the situation," Martinez told the Evening Post.

"He got the bug last Thursday night and couldn't travel with the team to Old Trafford, but he trained all right on Monday.

"He's lost a little bit of weight, but he'll hopefully regain that very quickly. Now he's over the bug, we'll look into what we can do to help him enjoy his football.

"He needs to be playing football, and being able to maintain that sharpness that you only get when you're playing regular football.

"That's important, because we'll need him to be ready whenever he gets an opportunity to play for Wigan Athletic."

Oh no...

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez believes the injury suffered by loaned out goalkeeper Chris Kirkland was down to the bad weather.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper has joined Leicester City on a one-month deal and was set to make his debut against Nottingham Forest on Monday.

However, a back problem sustained in training prevented him from doing so, as the Championship clash ended in a 1-0 win for the Foxes.

Kirkland has been plagued by injury problems throughout his career and this latest knock is yet another setback.

Latics boss Martinez does not believe it is a serious injury but admits he may return to the club for treatment.

"It's a back spasm. It's not a serious problem. Sometimes this cold weather doesn't really help," he said in the Daily Mirror.

"We're going to assess it over the next 48 hours and then we'll decide whether he comes back or stays at Leicester."

I don't think that's very fair Squiggs, if he stayed fit he would probably be the shittest Keeper in the League.

In many ways, his relentless, never-ending catalogue of injuries has kept him in a job. If he played often enough it would become obvious to anyone who didn't already know that he is one of the shittest goalkeepers ever.
