Celtic have appointed Brendan Rodgers as their new manager on a 12-month rolling contract.
The 43-year-old former Liverpool, Swansea City, Reading and Watford manager takes over following the departure of Ronny Deila.

Weird choice for him. I think he could have gotten better but good luck to him none the less.

Strange choice, though good Luck to him...

Suarez had some nice words to say about him in the press recently

He is showing great Character taking this Job..

Good luck to him. It's a rolling one year contract, so he's not stranded in that league indefinitely. I'm more surprised that Celtic wanted him, seeing as they're supposed to be focused on advancing in Europe. That was hardly Brendan's most obvious strength when he was with us. But I hope he does well there.

I wonder if there is any Scottish Xavi's up there?

I suppose we could send Joe Allen up there on loan in a Kilt..

wonder how celtic fans feel about this?

may have a quick look through their forums.

he's managing a decent club in a shit shit league.

I hope he does well, but I wonder if he'll be any better at organising a defence than he was here. Not that it matters much in that league.

Hey Bren, we've got some players I think you'll like.

Rangers got promoted this year, didn't they?

I reckon he's accepted the job one year too late.

Very predictable. He will win a few trophies and use that as a stepping stone to another more elite job

Has that strategy been successful for the Celtic managers in the last 10-15 years? I havent really followed Scottish football a lot. But I remember O'Neill took them to the Europa League final and the most elite job he got at the club level was Aston Villa.

I think this is a smart move. He gets guaranteed experience in Europe every season and will be able to attract better players than the other teams bar one. A good club to learn a bit more.

BOLLOCKS 'Best believe it' nailed it before I could get the same answer posted

Indeed. Strachan is managing Scotland after a short stint at Boro. Tony Mowbray took charge of Ipswich and Neil Lennon has been managing Bolton.

Deila won 2 concecutive league titles but fucked up qualifying for the CL.
Thats what Rodgers has to do, get into the CL.

And judging by the previous managers he'll get an elite job in the Championship after that..

By Elite, I meant a team with a decent transfer budget in a top league. Which he was obviously keen on, but the opportunities weren't really there.

He's managed Liverpool already, which puts him in a higher bracket than Delia, Lennon, and Tony fucking Mowbray. So he's using Celtic to RESTORE his very good reputation, win some trophies, and then move back into a more elite league.

Which will happen.

I think this is a very good move for Brendan, managing a big club with expectations but in a League with less exposure and competition. Could be the making of him.

Yeah, it definetly could. But at the same time whether or not he'll be seen as successfull will probably be in getting them into the group stages of the Champions league.
Last two season they've been knocked out by Malmo and Maribor.

Winning the league is expected I guess. Hope it works out for him.

So do I, but I reckon a resurgent Rangers might well make this season less of a shoo-in than the last few were. Gonna be interesting.

I don't get it, he wins the title , and it's expected and he loses and he's booted out ?

Barring doing really well in Europe there's not much he can do to attract a big side coming in for him .

Good luck to him though
