announced today:

Goalkeepers: César, Jefferson, Victor.
Defenders: Dante, David Luiz, Thiago Silva, Henrique, Dani Alves, Maicon, Marcelo, Maxwell.
Midfielders: Fernandinho, Hernanes, Luiz Gustavo, Oscar, Paulinho, Ramires, Willian.
Strikers: Bernard, Fred, Hulk, Jo, Neymar.

No Lucas or Coutinho ... 🙁

Surprised he's not giving Ronaldinho a go ahead of Bernard.

Fernandinho's move to City worked out well for his international future ...

This is a team that will struggle for goals I think -

Good. They can both have a proper rest then. Coutinho has been too inconsistent this season, and Lucas has been a ghost since his latest injury.

What happened to this Damiao fella?

He was touted as the next super striker not long ago?

Henrique is quite a strange/interesting selection. 27 yrs old, turning 28 and has only 5 caps.

(The back up fullbacks) Maxwell and Maicon are both turning 33 this year and the youngest defenders in the squad are 27. Probably because Scolari’s contract runs until the end of the World Cup so he's not too concern with planning for the future?

He needs to win in his own country. Any plans about bringing or blooding youngsters for the exposure will have to be shelved.

Even with home advantage that does not look like a world cup winning squad to me.

No Luis Felipe? Is he better than Maxwell or Marcelo?

Gustavo's name stuck out to me there. I rated him highly at Bayern and wanted him when he left them two years ago. I take it he is still playing well in Germany?

Doesn't really surprise me that Lucas isn't included. He has chosen a lot in form players ahead of him and that's the right thing to do imo.

At first glance it doesn't look to me like a squad that could win the thing but who knows.

Good attacking fullbacks, talented centre halves with one complete liability and some skill/goals up front. The midfield seems very un-Brazilian though, there's nobody particularly exciting in there but maybe that's a blessing, it might just work well for them.

Coutinho is good enough for that squad.

Or maybe it could add extra pressure.
Germany look to have an easy route to the semis but I doubt they can win it outside of Europe.
I've backed Argentina at 13 ta 2 but I think I'll have a little saver bet on Portugal at 40 ta 1 which looks a huge price considering the talent they have especially in defence and midfield.
They will acclimatise to conditions better than most of the European sides also.

Ronaldo has gone off injured tonight whilst playing for Madrid. I didn't see it but soemone who did said it looked like a hamstring injury so he may be a doubt for the World Cup!

Well if he does miss it then they have no chance.
You fancy any of the outsiders Pesam?
I was looking at Chile with a potential back to lay also.

I was looking at Chile too but Vidal seems essential to them and he's likely to miss out having just had surgery. All the outsiders I fancy are European, Belgium, France and Switzerland* so I need to convince myself a European team can win in SA first before I decide to invest on any of them.

* Can't really see the Swiss winning it but maybe a surprise quarter finalist or a shock semi finalist.

Yeah I don't fancy Chile to win it but at the price it's definitely a back to lay option as I can see them getting to the quarters at least.
I'm finding the price on Belgium very skinny.
I think the value is long gone.

I'm not sure 20/1 is too skinny for a team consisting of Hazard, Vertonghen, Witsel, Mirallas, Kompany, Coutois, Defour, Lukaku etc especially as they have an "easier" group.

Apparently the Ronaldo hamstring injury is not that bad and won't affect his world cup selection.

How good are Argentina these days? They must be fancying themselves for this one.
I'm trying to convince myself that the lack of a top quality goalkeeper won't affect them because I have a suspicion that they could win it.
