'Bouncing back'

West Brom will be in contention because they'll be able to keep the squad largely intact I imagine.

Boro are in trouble behind the scenes, but at least have quite a few saleable assets and some good youth players coming through. I can't see them doing anything under Southgate though and to be honest, would be quite happy if they stayed down.

Newcastle are in a bit of a mess. I just don't see a core set of decent players that they can keep and build their squad around. They don't seem to have many young players to rely on and the rest are either Premiership journeymen who will move on or expensive has-beens. They're going to have to go through massive changes and that makes it hard in the short-term.

the big problem for Newcastle was the board. for example, why didnt they appoint Curbs when Kinnear was in hospital? he has 20 years experience and was freely available, yet they put that prick Hughton in charge for quite a few games and then Shearer who despite being their messiah is a rookie manager. And don't get me started on Iain Dowie, how many teams has he relegated?

anyway, looking at their squad they need to rebuild quickly and I dont think they'll be able to do it so they might struggle in the championship.

Its impossible to say what will happen with Newcastle right now.

There will have to be some massive changes this summer and obviously a lot depends on what their financial situation is.

If they are able to get players off the wage bill quickly, get the backroom and coaching staff cut down to a decent size cheaply and give the manager money to rebuild the squad with players who are hungry and ready for the fight then this could end up as one of the better things that has happened to them in recent years.

I suspect that Shearer will take the job full time, which will help keep the fans onside for a while (being relegated, having loads of overpaid disinterested players and Joe Kinnear coming back would hardly help matters) but from what he has been saying it will only be if the owner backs him and makes some proper plans for the future.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

of the three that went down I think the one most likely to come back up is WBA. they wont have to sell loads of players and restructure their squad.

Shearer will stay for sure, and in Harper, Bassong, Beye, Taylor, Butt, Guthrie, Ameobi and carrol they have a plenty good enough spine to compete in the championship, even after theyve shaved off the bloated mass of ageing has beens duff, owen, geremi, colocini, enrique, smith, viduka, martins etc.
Its incredibly fanciful to think they will struggle. Every single quality championship player will jump at the chance to go there, and with the dead weight gone from around their neck, they will be able to afford to get a fair few in, certainly enough talent to get them back up, the hard part is the re-build in the premiership, that will take some time.
In-doyle, hunt, ledley, scotland, fryatt, delph, kilgallon, st ledgar etc

Hasn't Bassong already said he wants to leave? I imagine Beye will have offers as well.

You may be right in what you say, but massive sweeping changes are needed and it'll take a lot of luck, skill and money to get it right in one summer.
