Nathan Eccleston retains a position in the starting XI after his two goals in last week's narrow defeat to Blackburn Rovers, while John McMahon's men welcome back goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

I was going to watch this until Trempari gave me a big win at Lingfield. Time to get wasted instead!

Quite an attacking line up that. Good to see Saric is alive.

That's a fine looking reserve-team that.

Apart from Brouwer

So where's the Finnish chap?

A very good question.

cheers livvy, isn't it meant to have started? I've got some middle aged women having a shampoo fight =\

2-1 to us.

Brouwer scored with his 1st touch after chasing down a lazy pass from the bolton CB.

Pacheco looks head n shoulders above the rest. If anyones gonna make it at the top level it'l be him. He's very clever and has an extremely good touch/technique.

Pacheco was brilliant this eve. Played through the middle as an AM and showed why he is held in such high regard. Beat players for fun, found players in space and was easily the stand out player.

Bruna also had a good game.

RESERVES ROMP TO BOLTON TRIUMPH
Paul Hassall at Prenton Park 02 September 2009

Liverpool Reserves claimed their first success of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North season with a comfortable 3-1 win over Bolton Wanderers on Wednesday night.
A first-half strike from Gerardo Bruna, a bizarre goal from substitute Jordy Brouwer and a late third from Alex Kacaniklic secured the three points for John McMahon's men as they got life at their new Prenton Park home off to a winning start.

Adam Blakeman did pull one back for the Trotters on the hour mark but it was not enough to deny the home side, who provided the perfect response to last week's opening day defeat at Blackburn Rovers.

Ahead of the clash, McMahon opted to give a debut to French teenager Chris Mavinga and all eyes were trained on the former Paris Saint German starlet as he kicked off his Liverpool career alongside Daniel Ayala at the heart of the defence.

However, it was a familiar face in the form of Bruna who caught the eye in the early exchanges, firing a seventh minute shot well wide, before he brought some much-needed cheer to the spectators that had braved the rain by giving the Reds the lead on 15 minutes.

Nikola Saric was tripped on the edge of the visitors' penalty area, allowing the Argentina-born playmaker to step up and crash a deflected effort beyond the dive of Adam Bogdan.

A head injury to Trotters defender Joe Riley then forced a lengthy stoppage in play that did little to help the flow of the game, with the adverse weather conditions also hindering the hosts' attempts to play attacking football to feet.

When the contest finally resumed Rhys Bennett headed a rare Bolton chance over the top from a left wing corner on 25 minutes before Stephen Irwin cut in from the left and scuffed a low 20 yarder that was easily gathered by Bogdan.

With half-time approaching the downpour of torrential rain subsided, sparking an instant improvement in the quality of football, with Liverpool creating a sudden raft of chances.

On 35 minutes Irwin and Eccleston combined well down the left flank, but unfortunately for the home side no-one was on hand to turn home the latter's low ball across the six yard box.

The Reds continued to look the more likely and a well worked corner minutes later saw Bruna pick out Dani Pacheco just outside the area, but the Spaniard's sizzling drive flew just wide of the upright.

David Amoo then showed Chris Stokes a clean pair of heels before ghosting into the penalty area on the right hand side and crashing a near post shot wide from a tight angle.

After a slow start it had developed into 45 minutes of one-way traffic, but deep into first-half injury-time Peter Gulacsi was forced to produce an outstanding save to keep out Javlon Campbell's testing drive after Mavinga had been caught in possession inside his own penalty area.

With the warning of Bolton's threat on the counter-attack still fresh in their minds, the Reds restarted the match determined to double their advantage.

A searching run and cross from Amoo was volleyed just wide by Saric before Bruna clipped the bar direct from a right-wing corner.

The writing was on the wall for the visitors and Liverpool finally got their second of the game on 55 minutes, albeit via somewhat fortuitous circumstances.

Brouwer replaced Saric on 54 minutes and within seconds of taking to the field was celebrating a goal, chasing down a back pass and charging Bogdan's attempted clearance into an empty net.

At this point it looked like being a question of how many McMahon's men would score, but the away side began to rally and got back into it following an almighty goalmouth melee on 59 minutes.

A cross from the right found Michael O'Halloran who cut inside before drilling in a shot that was beaten away by Gulacsi. Mavinga then cleared off the line when the rebound fell for Danny Ward before the Reds stopper was again forced to parry into the path of Blakeman who crashed home from inside the six yard box.

Liverpool responded and could have extended their lead soon after with Bogden making smart saves to thwart both Pacheco and Bruna.

The away side were pushing hard for a late equaliser and the Reds began to exploit the space.

Substitute Kacaniklic finally sealed the points on 80 minutes when he pounced on a loose ball and fired into the bottom corner after Eccleston had seen his attempted shot blocked.

He made a few mistakes in posession but on the upside he's quick and thankfully looks good on the ball and very good in the air. Started at left back and then centre-back during the second half. Difficult to judge in truth since it was his first game but a mixed night for him.

Pacheco, Bruna and Kacaniklic when he came on in the second half all looked very good. Pacheco head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch.

I'm not sure what the views are on Eccleston from those who have seen him in the flesh but everytime I have seen him he has done well. Can finish, beats players and always looks a threat.

Pacheco is amazing! he should be on our bench and getting game time ahead of voronin.
bruna did good aswell and kacaniklic is good and runs at the defence and does tricks.
i rate eccleston, i think he is one of our better players

Maybe I'm being harsh, but I can't say that I was hugely impressed with anyone. It was what... the second game of the season... and with all the new players, they're still looking pretty disjointed as a team. I don't think anyone really found their rhythm.

I do agree with the commentators though - Pacheco looks like someone who will swim rather than sink if moved up a level. We should stick him on the bench for the Leeds game and give him a 20-30min run out.

Bauchtmann (sp?) has always impressed me when ive seen highlights.. Dribbles way too often but in the reserves he beats players constantly. Not sure if it would work so much against decent defenders.

Pacheco's through balls impress me a lot. THey are always very well weighted and i think he could really help Torres by giving him decent balls to run on to and he could create a lot of space with his first touch..

Amoo rips the young lads to shreads and is one huge kid. Doesnt seem to be able to do much else with the ball though. VERY DIRECT.

Dalle Valle is probably the best finisher in our young ranks. Pacheco's finishing is incredibly shite.

I think we have some quality young players..
Football manager obviously disagrees.. The only players to become half decent tend to be Insua, Dalle Valle and thats pretty much it. Rest are a waste of space on the game.

I'm assuming that the likes of Babel, N'Gog and El Zhar will play ahead of him.

I reckon we'll see more of this during the coming Seasons as we're now actually seeing talent capable of making the grade.

Wenger's youngsters over the years has been of a different class to ours when looked at in a broad perspective at least.

The Gunners Carling Cup-team has fielded the likes of Theo Walcott, Denilson, Clichy, Vela, Diaby, Song, Djorou and Bendtner (who's just signed a new 4-year-contract worth a staggering £14M mind).

The coming Seasons they have got players like Ramsey, Merida and Wilshere coming through their ranks. Pretty much top of the crop once more.

We are not yet on par with Arsenal when it comes to youth-talent but we're getting there and young Pacheco seems very much to be a likely contender for a starting-spot come Leeds. Nemeth would've been to if it wasn't for his loan-spell which I reckon will do him a world of good.

*Anyone who saw the game last night care to tell how Saric got along before beeing subbed?

I was quite impressed with our Hungarian Goulash (goalie), he looked Reina-like in terms of composure and it seems we finally have a good young keeper to cover Pepe.
