Getting knocked out the Champions League and finishing 3rd in our group might not be such a bad thing..

We would stand a better chance of qualifying for next seasons Champions League, as the winners of the Europa League Automatically qualify for next seasons Champions League.

We will have a chance to qualify via 2 competitions and at the same time help rebuild our European Pedigree

Arguably we stand a better chance of winning the Europa League than this season's Champions League. Even more so once BR get his shit together with the squad.. We would have to hope we have a stronger 2nd half to the season..

Qualifying next season is an absolute must given the change in revenue.

Just a thought..

We don't look as if we'll win the league cup, let alone the Europa League. The worst case scenario is that we'll not win anything and finish outside the top four. What FSG does about that I have no idea. We'll surely need to seriously rethink the spine of the team, and I doubt they'll pay for the right replacements.

We do not want to go into that bastard useless euro Disney cup. Travel to the far ends of the earth and play on pitches like farmers fields against players that break people like Sturridge. Need to avoid that cup, or get our youth team knocked out of it sharpish.
All cups need to go into the back burner in place of concentration on the league from here forward. We have to get in the top 4 with the money increase next season.

We're two very winnable games away from qualifying for the knock-out stages so I'd say the CL remains our European priority this season.

I wouldn't say Basel is a very winnable game, on current form. Hopefully Sturridge will turn things around.

I dunno.. I would consider taking the hit and have a crack at the Europa League.

Revenue for the Champs League next season is worth twice as much as this season

I'm more worried about Ludogarets away than I am Basel at home, not that I'm not worried about that game. Anyway, don't you earn a bomb for making it through to the knockout phases?

You do. But nothing compared to what you earn for just making the group stages and nothing compared to what you will earn for making the group stages next season..

I'm not saying we won't qualify via normal qualifying methods. I Just think dropping into the Europa League might not be such a bad thing this time around...

There was much said on here last night about lowering expectations and that not being 'the Liverpool way'...and yet here we are discussing the merits of being knocked out of a competition we're still very much in.

I'm not lowing my expectations one bit.

I never thought we would win the Champions League anyway..

I'm just saying it might not be such a bad thing if we finish 3rd in our group this time around..

I'd rather finish fourth In the group. Fuck the Europa league.

We've got a shit squad on form, the fewer trips around the eastern bloc the better

Which is precisely why Man Utd have spent so much this summer trying to claw their way back in, qualifying for the tournament next season would be huge for us in terms of revenue, if we miss out there is simply no way we can compete with the top sides. I expect FSG will have to free up some funds in January for a push, missing out this season will probably lock us out for a number of years.

Which again is why im suggesting dropping out into the Europa League may not be such a bad thing. We would have 2 bites of the cherry as the say. You would think if we get our shit together by the 2nd half of the season we would give ourselves a good chance of winning it..

I can see the logic in that and it may well happen anyway but the Europa is a lot of travel and games for a squad that looks ill equipped at the moment, going that route would probably end up costing us a lot of league points

we don't have goals in the side and that was so obviously going to be an issue before the season even started. we won't get through the group and we won't finish top 4. i'm 99% certain of it.

If we get relegated this season we could probably give the Championship a damn good go next year.

Exactly.

Jono, you had a go at fans for accepting a loss last night yet now you suggest we would be better off demoting ourselves to the Europa League? WTF man.

Ha Ha I knew this would come about..

I am not saying lets get demoted to the Europa League.. I'm saying if we do it wouldn't be such a bad thing...

If there is a chance to qualify for the next seasons champions league, bring in some silverware and get our name back up amongst the elite in europe.. then I am all for it..

Why the fuck not ?

I would take winning the Europa league over finishing 4th everyday of the week.. even more so now as it guarentees you champions league qualification!!!

Or have we become Arsenal all of a sudden, who's main target in life is to finish 4th every season ?

We're not good enough to win the CL (no real surprise) but it'd be a shame if we failed to get out of this group. The draw was very kind to us and on paper we're by far the 2nd best side.

As for winning the Europa League, that's a bit of a stretch particularly given the way we're playing at the moment.

The focus has to be on finishing in the top 4, like it or not.

Top 4 plus last 16 in the CL would be an excellent achievement this season, given that this was always going to be a season for consolidation.

It's looking very difficult though at the moment.

The January transfer window will be critical IMO. We need to secure some top talent - especially because if we fail to get top 4, it'll be difficult to attract top talent in the summer.

What is this shit?

We're 3 points off the top four and qualification for the knock out round in the Champions League is in our own hands.

That, despite us playing shite.

Get through, find some form and let's stop acting like little pussyholes.
