After he signed for citeh i haven't seen/heard much about the guy

he was pretty good at portsmouth, clearly isn't wanted at citeh. Would he be worth a cheeky sign at the right price?

Nah...and he didn´t pass their medical (if I remember correctly) but they bought him anyhow. How many strikers do they have now? As many as we have goalkeepers in the reserves? 54.

Yeah I remember that now, they managed to get a serious reduction in the price after the deal was agreed because of some knee issue

is this injury sorted now though as its been a year or so? could get him cheapish and we know he can score in the prem

I've never seen anything in him that makes me think he'd be any good for us.

I think we need better, and can probably afford better too.

My mate promised he'd name his newly born son after whatever City player scored the winner if they beat United a year or two ago.

As such, Ben it is.

His name always reminds me of Banjo. And since he couldn't hit a barn door with one, that's fairly apt.

I think you're all being a bit harsh on him. He wouldn't be a terrible option as squad back-up for Torres+1 and would certainly fit the mould of one who could lead the line on his own in a 4-2-3-1.

He might not be quite good enough for us, but we have to be realistic about who'd likely be happy enough signing as perennial back-up striker.

Paul Tomkins named his son Abel Xavier for some similar reason.

Agree. Provided he passed the medical, we could do worse, particularly for the reason set out in your second para. Whoever we sign as no.2 striker is not going to be absolute top drawer.

He's not terrrible but still, there is no point in signing him if he's not good enough. We have to be realistic about who we can expect to sit on the bench, sure, but at some point we're going to have to rely on these guys, so we have to make sure they're up to scratch.

Agree to an extent, but it depends how you define "good enough/up to scratch". A player willing to be a stand-in isn't going to be as good as a contender for the starting eleven. This will actually be one b@stard of a tricky balance to strike.

we dont need Benjani we have better back up strikers already warming the bench ie Ngog, Babel, Possible Veronon ...
