You forgot to specify if it's home or away.

They all have their merits. I'm sticking with Carroll because, like Cheyrou and co before him, I'm convinced "he'll come good".

It depends on the opposition, but in a vacuum we kinda have to stick with Carroll given the investment made and the fact that he's younger than the others. We have to hope he comes good.

doesn't him being so young mean you don't have to play him so often whilst with bellamy and kuyt you are at most going to get a couple more years out of them?

Agreed. I went with Carroll, because I think he's the one I would prefer most often up front, but I don't think any of them should be automatic.

I loved that Kenny wasn't afraid to change the starting xi as he saw fit last year depending on who we were playing and how we wanted to play in each individual match... maybe that was down to not having the players he wanted to run out match after match, but it worked a treat for us on a number of occasions. So far this season, he seems to be reluctant to change what had been a winning team.

The best team will play obv. But I think a Suarez/Carroll partnership is the way forward.

Sorry lads, but there is no way Liverpool can afford to bench a record signing. Carroll must be played.
Utter rubbish. The best players should play, price is irrelevant.

Me too. Gerrard for Spearing (or Maxi but swap Downing back to the left) when he's back.

What do you want me to do? Just forget we paid £35 million for him? This 'the fee is the fee' approach is ridiculous to me. IMO any conversation that is had about Andy Carroll should start with how much we paid for him.

D'ya not think it's pretty unforgivable that our record signing is not considered one of our best players and guaranteed a first team place? We were left hoping Suarez could pull us out of the shit yesterday. We were reliant on an individual to pull the team through, like we have been for 5/6 years now. When you drop £35 on a new striker you'd at least hope that isn't the case anymore, but it is.
He was bought for the future Stu.
He was signed injured. He is young and Kenny himself has said that hes a signing for 10 years not for 10 weeks.

The level of improvement that is going to be required from AC to make him actually worth £35 million is going to have to be considerable.

Anyway, fuck it. Let's hope he comes good.

Seriously - we need to play Carroll as much as possible to see if he has it - otherwise I say we try and sell him for whatever we get. So far I see the purchase as a rushed purchase and we would have been better getting an older proven striker (if only for a few years) at a lower price. If you think about it he did not add much to the squad after we bought him as he was injured. We may have been better off spending 2M on Bellamy last year ( I am sure Man City would have released him for that if he was not required).

We need to give him enough chances by starting him in every game till he starts to look like he is fitting into the team.
Look man, at the same age:
Andriy Shevchenko was at Dinamo Kiev.
Ruud van Nistlerooy was at Heerenveen
Thierry Henry was at Monaco
David Villa was at Sporting Gijon
Didier Drogba was at Le Mans
David Trezeguet was at Monaco
Christian Vieri was at Venezia

The difference with the game then (only a decade ago) and now is that you cannot afford to wait before signing these kind of players. You see a spark and you sign them YOUNG. A decade ago you wait until they establish themselves and then you invest. The fact that Tottenham (in the same transfer window) had 28m turned down for Carroll tells you all you need to know.
We couldnt wait for him to become the player we think he will be, or he would be gone. We have signed a player who we going to have to nurture to become that player. Yes we have paid a premium, but only time will tell if it was wrong to do so.

I just think people need to have more patience these days. Look at Lucas and what he is becoming! Look at Adam expelled from Rangers. Look at Nani and Anderson laughed at at times in the last 3 years. Look at Carragher being written off after 2 mistakes.

One of the best things Fergie does is has faith in his players. It make take years for a player to come good but he waits and eventually you see the Anderson, Nani, Ronaldo, Park etc come through. We have been a revolving door club for so long we have forgotten what its like to trust our players to improve. Its in with the new and out with the old before a season is up these days.
We've invested in him, we've stuck our neck out and signed a player that we think will be world class. Now we just have to wait and have faith in the lad (and the management and coaching teams) to come good.
I saw enough of him at Newcastle to believe he will be a great player one day, and part of a great team. I hope our fans give him the time to prove me right, and i hope Kenny believes in him more than the managers we have had in the past decade who would give you half a season and then be looking for the next big thing.

.....

Team selection should be about picking the best player, whether they come from the youth system or whether they were signed for a fee.

Whether we should have signed Carroll for £35M is a completely different argument
What people need to remember is that it isnt their money and as such the fee is irrelevant.
Lets say he cost 2m but our owners were only willing to invest 10m then yeah its fucked. But they have (since he came) invested a further 60 odd million, so they arent short of cash and thats the money they were happy to spend. The amount is relative.
And again.....not your money.
Dont worry about it.

Two things to say in reply to that Oncy....

Carroll will never be as good or prolific as any of this guys you mentioned.

Outside of 'Arry who else was looking for Carroll? He's not exactly the best example to give.
