I love Rafa, his love for the team and city was never in doubt. He gave us many, many unbelievable memories and under him we destroyed Europe's best on a regular basis. That he never managed consistency in the league will always detract from his overall record but he put us back amongst the European elite and for that we should always be grateful.
He was fairly consistent in the league, it just wasn't good enough for the expectations he himself increased.

exactly. 05/06 and 06/07 both look very successful seasons (the latter more due to CL, admittedly) compared to 02/03 and 03/04, but the tragedy is that many fans are so risibly stupid that they imagined that his CL winning miracle of 2005 somehow meant that he should be expected to win a title with the mountain of dross inherited from houllier plus a few mid-market signings.

Rafa Benitez has turned down three job offers in Spain as he seeks a return to management in the Premier League.

Benitez, 50, is unemployed after a disappointing spell with European champions Inter Milan ended after they fell off the pace in Serie A and finished second behind Tottenham in their Champions League group.

However since his departure from the San Siro Benitez has been offered jobs at Atletico Madrid, Seville and Valencia.

Having secured title successes with Valencia in 2002 and 2004 as well as the UEFA Cup, Benitez clinched the Champions League in a six-year spell at Liverpool.

Benitez made clear his objective to return to top-flight management in England when he said: “The priority is the Premier League. To have a project, a business plan, a methodology of what you want to do and how to improve a club. It has to be a good club though.â€

Ironically Benitez has not ruled out being in contention for key posts if they emerge at the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.

"@LeeDixon2: What a nice man Rafa is. Top bloke"

(Rafa was on Football Focus yesterday).

He was, and it was nice to see him, but I was a bit worried when he said (not for the first time) that it would be "a dream" to manage Liverpool again. Really, for his sake I hope he moves on from that idea, because FSG are here to stay and therefore so is Comolli (or whoever takes over from him in that role eventually), so I can't see Rafa getting a look-in even when the King decides his time's up.

He just answered the question put to him mate. He knows as well as anybody that he's got no chance of getting his old job back.

Oh, I realise he was answering a question. I'd just have liked to hear him do so less emphatically - "never say never, but...", that sort of thing.

I love Kenny, but I don't think he has much of a chance of being as successful as Rafa.
Weird. I'd say the exact opposite.

Kenny's never won the CL as manager, but 4 titles goes quite a long way.
