Forget the price, forget the comparisons with other players ("we need another nutter like Suarez", "he is going to be just like Coutinho" "it's just like Sturridge situation" – all that stuff, which is often misleading and often has nothing to do with the players actually being discussed), forget the needs of the squad. Just your gut feeling, pure and simple. Will Balotelli be a success in Liverpool?

I think he'll score or create goals that will win us games - to me that is a success for a squad that is potentially low on game winners.

Really hope so. Can't see it. He'll be sulking in no time and the Kop will f*cking hate his lack of work rate

I think he will be better this time round, by all accounts his strike rate has improved as has his chance creation ( nice read on the Telegraph).

For that money... I think its a no brainer really... what 12M for Shane Long, Borini etc etc...

He's got plenty of champs league experience...

Pace power... approaching his peak..

If we can suffer the aesthetics of Sturridge wandering around like he's the centre of the universe then why not Balotelli?

Incidentally, a front 3 of Sturridge, Sterling and Balotelli... I'd reckon that's quite tricky to play against.

Anyway if our options include not buying anyone and heading into the season with just Sturridge and Lambert then...

BUY.

Lads, we have some amount of attacking options.

From 2010 to now, from downing to steeling, and Voronin as back up to super Mario..

It's all good

If we are talking only about ability then he's an amazing buy. Its the rest thats the problem. His mood swings, he's lazy and is easy to wind up.

He might be a nutcase, but he will our nutcase. He will also keep up the employment in the area... Fire brigades will double up their shifts I guess?

I'd prefer him not to be eligible in time for the City game because we (and he) can do without all the hype and provocation (the hacks would LOVE him to get sent off on his debut). But he's a fantastic capture at this price.

I don't mind him being eligible for the game, but don't think we should start him. He'll still be a great option to have on the bench in that game.

A bench with Can/Allen, Markovic/Ibe, Balotelli and Lambert occupying the midfield and forward spots looks really good in terms of potential for exciting game-changing impact subs.

I can see it going both ways, to be honest. If he buys into Brendan's vision for him he really could end up being one of the best players in the world. Liverpool fans will be fiercely loyal to him if he does the business, but will also turn on him sharply if he seems to show a lack of effort and fight, something that has certainly been true of him in the past. Toss of a coin. In one universe he's fucking ace, in another, a disaster shipped out after 18 months of sulking. I've voted that we're in the Universe where he's great.

We had to roll the dice on Mario for 16 million. It's a no brainer. We'll just have to take the good with the bad. Simple as that. We will have to suffer him having an off day when he's strolling around looking bored as fuck. But, he'll reward that patience by providing us with edge of your seat moments. I am excited to see him stroll onto the pitch in the CL, monster some FB and slap in the top corner from about a million yards.

Balotelli is almost a parody of himself at this stage. The funfair that surrounds him needs to die down as Pirlo alluded to. I have no idea how this will play out for us, but I'm already strapped into the Balotelli Rollercoaster. I'm going to ride this out screaming all the way.

Success, the way we are set up and competent striker will score goals with us, he will give us another physical dimension up front, if he gets more than 13 goals Id say it was worth it

I wonder what odds Paddy Power will give me on him growing a 'fro and scouse mustache?

The only problem of this signing for me is, if Rodgers manages to turn around a head-case like Mario Balotelli, he will be universally hailed as a miracle worker. He improved Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho and then Balotelli? That's some list. Rodgers will have order to more full-sized portraits of himself to satisfy his rising ego and his the likes of Barca and Bayern will be competing for his services. So for that reason this signing is a risk.

Very hard to call. I think he'll be a success on the field but we'll be well sick of the shite that goes along with it.

If hes a success on the field, people will have an inexhaustible supply of patience, Suarez proved that
