Balo

Would anyone keep him?
Not a chance.

Player like that can cause issues in the dressing room.

You want a team of players that are cohesive and can bond..

Balotelli is Stan Collymore type player..

Tons of talent.. but his personal issues will probably never let him unearth his full potential..

I kind of like him and hope he realizes his potential... but we just can't afford a "project" like him. He cost us dearly last season. Has to go, sale or loan doesn't matter.

Not a single a club in the world would be stupid enough to pay his wages unfortunately.
Fingers crossed he'd be shipped off somehow.

He needs to go elsewhere so I can enjoy him properly again.
It's a bit like having that crazy mate, you love hearing stories about what they get up to, but it's a different matter when they're swinging from the ceiling in your own house at 6 in the morning.

I'm sorry about that night it was embarising

He's going to go full Borini this summer, and refuse to go anywhere, I can see it now. So he'll be 5th choice and not even get in the squad most of the time.
Other clubs don't want that sort of goal return for those sort of wages. I guess at a long shot we could palm him to italy if we paid the lions share of his wages, but I can see him blowing it out.

It'll seem a bit odd to him if he's bombed out just when the team starts adapting to suit Benteke, because Mario would have looked much better with such service. It's really just a case of: nope, not adapting for you, Mario, because you're not my choice, but I'll adapt for you, Benteke, because you ARE my choice. He shouldn't have been signed in the first place, but the whole thing's been handled appallingly.

Sure. Ill keep him. I wouldnt if we had good strikers but we dont. And BR will try all possible constelations and then have to try Balo again.

He's nothing like Collymore in terms of off the field influence. Collymore was the ultimate negative presence. Balotelli is quite popular. If Rodgers wanted to make Benteke look as shit as possible, all he needs to do is copy his treatment of Balotelli to the letter. I'm not a fan of Mario at all, but no one gets out of that little saga with any credit at all.

I think a season long loan to a side that will play to his strengths would suit all parties.
Hopefully Mario would regain his confidence and have a good season allowing us to recoup our money next summer.

I think the problem with Mario is that you can instruct him to what you want him to do during the game, but I'm guessing he'll do whatever else for 90% of the time.
He was at fault for a few goals on defensive set pieces because he wasnt "switched on" and his defensive contribution/pressing was extremely lazy.

This hasnt been handled well by Rodgers at all but Balotelli is a liability if you cant give him a free role.
We cant afford that luxury. Sure, he would probably score a few more goals this season.
But he doesnt fit in with how Rodgers wants to set up the team and tactics at all.

It makes his signing so extremely weird and uneccessary. Shame for both him and the club.

I think his attitude problem is widely over stated on this forum and it appears to be at odds with the evidence. GKmaccas summed up everything that needed to be said.

Teams have been set up to suit Balotelli in the past and every single one of those clubs has ended up bombing him out, despite the fact that his record at some of them has been decent. That tells its own story about the impossibility of managing him, Even if he did pick up form after a change of approach on Rodgers' part, it wouldn't last. If we can't move him on, I'd pay up his contract and tell him to get lost.

Disagree, Rodgers did adapt the team's game to Balotelli. Did you already forget how we played in the beginning of last season?

I remember one game with Sturridge, followed by long and tiresome boasts about how Balotelli was being made to come back for corners, and then a few matches where the ball was being played up to him for a quick layoff to the midget Sterling, who more often than not wasn't there, followed by long periods on the bench.

I'm on board with this viewpoint

I'm actively trying to forget how we played at the start of last season (not to mention the middle and end of the season).

To be fair, Mario was also asked to change his game and work for the team more than he's ever done in the past – that part is true. But I don't think it's fair to accuse Rodgers of not trying to adjust the team's style to Balotelli as well. Basically our counter-attacking game of the season before was all but sacrificed for Mario; we played more crosses into the box, slowed down the passing game and had other player make decoy runs so that Balo could turn with the ball and blast it into the stands from 25 yards. Then near the end of December there was a watershed moment when Rodgers publicly said Balotelli "wasn't suited to our style," we went back to the playing style of the previous season and Mario dropped to the bench. At least that's how I remember it.

On a related note, I fucking hope Brendan doesn't go too far in "adjusting" for Benteke's sake. At least his latest interview had this somewhat reassuring bit that the style of play will remain the same, but with new attacking players.

Yep, that's how I saw it as well.

Y'know, the game is filled with 'what-ifs' but if he'd scored when he was first subbed on, I think he would've had a better season with us.
