Mario Balotelli has been named the best young player in Europe – and has taken a swipe at Jack Wilshere, Cesc Fábregas and Wayne Rooney in the process.

The Manchester City striker won the Golden Boy trophy, organised by the Turin newspaper Tuttosport and voted for by European journalists to honour the most talented footballer under the age of 21. The 20-year-old beat the 18-year-old Wilshere into second place – and then claimed he did not even know who the Arsenal midfielder was.

"What's his name? Wil ... ? No, I don't know him, but the next time I play against Arsenal I will keep a close eye on him," Balotelli said. "Perhaps I can show him the Golden Boy trophy and remind him that I won it."

The Italy international then had a dig at previous winners of the award, including Fábregas, Rooney and Rafael van der Vaart, insisting only one past recipient could claim to be better than him. "There's only one that is a little stronger than me: Messi. All the others are behind me.

"I am delighted to receive the award, but who should have won it but me? Two years ago I finished sixth and then fourth in 2009. It was finally my turn. My aim is that this prize will transform itself into the Ballon d'Or. To have won this award is a good omen to achieve that."

Aside from personal prizes, Balotelli also seems confident of helping his team win the Premier League title this season. "For 2011 I want the Premier League, in order to continue with the tradition I had at Inter of winning three consecutive titles, and to clinch the Europa League, a trophy I have not yet won and a competition where we are considered favourites."

It's difficult to know how much of the opprobrium hurled his way is genuine racism, and how much is just because he's a massively stupid, ignorant, hateful cunt

There's a poor old woman somewhere in Manchester who's certain she's got alzheimers coz she her cosy isn't where she left it.

Its a wasted opportunity, he should have made it into a 'V' Sign like Winston in my pic, or ever a finger for the american viewers.

Has Wilshere actually done anything? How's he got second?

Spearing was 8th

That hat is kindof awesome. I mean, if you are going to be the stereotypical pathologically arrogant striker, that's the perfect hat to wear. Or when you are 12 and skiing.

What has Balotelli 'actually done'?

Well, he was a part of the best team in Inter history ... and despite being an arrogant little kid, continued to get support from Mourinho and his teammates.

Had a bit of a mess of a childhood, become pretty good at football, apparently supported AC while playing for Inter, got arrested for driving into a womens prison, and when pulled over and asked by an English policeman why he had 5k in cash in the car replied "because I'm rich".

That's about it from what I can tell

It is.

I think he's a great character. If he wasn't such a nutjob he could be a great footballer too.

He didn't start many matches though, did he?
[/quote]

Nope i even think he refused to play for a while.

Did you read about his childhood ?

I wonder if he'll ever sort his head out, if he doesn't he'll probably end up having a career like Anelka. Good but could have been so much better had his head been screwed on properly.

Speaking of which, how fucking hard is it these days to find an acceptable hat wooly hat to go skiing in?

I'll be in Vail in a few weeks time, and thought I'd update my skiing wardrobe for the event. Not a fucking easy task. There's some awful skiing clobber out there, and I saw plenty of things that would easily rival Balotelli's thing too.

Anyway, I read that Balotelli article earlier and pished myself laughing at it. Good on him, the pig-thick fucker. at leats he's got a bit of balls and an attitude - which makes for some midly more entertaining interviews than the smarmy plaititudes most young footballers are engineered with these days.

I love it!

Having read this thread knowing very little about him and reading of his arrogance and excellent response to the bizzys Inhave decided that Balotelli is my favorite lunatic player. And that doesn't even take into consideration his magnificently stupid hat. Bravo.
