Two things that I'm bothered with having scrolled through the thread. 1. Messi's suit is shit. 2. Dani Alves is a gremlin and should be nowhere near that team.

Yeah, but Dani looks fucking cool.

Brazilian Bond yo !

I'd have thought Drogba might have got more of a mention, having led the line single-handedly for the Champions League winners.

Drogba should have made the team at least.
The fact he left in the summer didnt help his cause. The decision is made at the end of the year and voters often base their choice on the last few months. Had he stayed in Europe and scored a few goals in CL, he'd be there surely.

Is it not a private ballot? That's cool.

Can someone randomly find out for me who Xabi voted for? Wait who did Suarez vote for?

I honestly don't know whether its better for footballers or the media to have voting rights. Neither, I suppose.

I predict a fading by Messi in the next 2 years.

Not sure about Ronaldo.

How do two teams from Spain have every player but one while the two finalists in the premier European competition can't get one between them?

It's not just the goals that help Messi win the award, it's his overall style of play.

Messi is a genius/wizard with the ball at his feet. He is one of the best dribblers of all time, great at passing and has excellent vision.

Ronaldo is more of a manufactured through hard work. For all of his 'tricks' he has never been a great dribbler who can go on mazy runs dribbling past 2-3 defenders like even Robben, Ribery, Hleb, Aguero. Remember when Ronaldo first showed up? People mocked him for his overuse of stepovers. It was only when he turned into a goal machine that he got respect.

He is more like a Shevchenko type of player, tall, strong, fast, powerful shooter, good in the air.

Just out of interest, why? hes still pretty young (25) in football terms and hasnt clocked up too many injuries over the years so I cant see any particular physical reason for a decline at such a young age

If by decline you mean he wont score 90 goals every year then yeah thats probably true

I actally think the steroids have been an important part in his development. A lot of his play, imo, is based on strength and balance which is heavily influenced by any steroids you might take.

His metabolism will have been running at 3 or 4 times the speed during that period so, internally, he's probably closer to a 29 or 30 year old. I don't think he'll fall of the cliff but I reckon in a couple of years he'll be very much an aged force.

Which would be a shame since I want to see us beating them while he's playing well so there's no excuses.

Well of course they played a an important part in his development, but I don't think it works the way you've mentioned.

Your body produces growth hormone naturally, as a child it (obviously) promotes growth but as an adult it still produces growth hormone in order to repair damage that has happened. Not just bruises etc but other damage that occurs e.g. cell death etc. I don't think the steroids he was taking would have sped up his metabolism at all, they just boosted the low levels of growth hormone that his body was producing to more normal levels.

They weren't supercharging him with drugs. Well, I hope they weren't.

Yeah, I doubt they were pumping him with anabolic steroids. It wasn't to increase his performance levels, nor was it to stimulate muscle growth.
It was just so his hormones would either function properly, or to inject what his body simply wasn't producing.
If that treatment had made him 7 foot tall, I'd agree with Wiz, but he hasn't, so I really can't see where he's coming from.
