Didnt Semedo sign for Villareal?

Koulibaly Should be next on the list, hopefully.
 
The most important thing is that they sign a top target and fast. Pay over the odds a little if need be. If not, other targets will question us and go elsewhere and before you know it, we'll be shopping for bargains again.

Part of me hopes it was all a cunning plan to extract this name from Southampton.
 
We are an omnishambles in the transfer market. I had hoped this summer we were going to move quickly, get our first choice targets and take care of business. Instead we have just been made to look like complete cunts by Southampton. Another long summer of slowly collapsing deals ahead.

Apparently, Juventus are seeking 60m, or 48m and Matic, for Leonardo Bonucci.

Van Dijk might be a proven in the EPL, but surely he's not worth as much as one of the most accomplished defenders in Europe?

Semedo's gone to Villarreal so that's a non-starter.

De Vrij might have some knee injury issues I think. Right now, I think we should just go with young and hopefully hungry than older and proven (in the Premier League). It's risky, but I kinda' hate having to keep buying someone who goes to Southampton to triple or quadruple his price before we wake up and put money in. The key is in not sinking crazy money in when they're unproven (e.g. Markovic); we did it right with Coutinho (what a fucking steal that was) and arguably with Can. So we actually can do that - we just don't do it enough.

So right now, I think we could perhaps take a chunk of the money saved from the Van Dijk deal and spend it on a younger, seemingly rising CB who has had a couple senior seasons under his belt, e.g. Issa Diop (Toulouse), Diego Llorente (Real Madrid on loan to Malaga last season), Diego Reyes (Porto on loan to Espanyol last season), Wesley Hoedt (Lazio - though Roopy thinks he might not be ready for another couple of years), maybe Nikals Stark (Hertha Berlin, though he just extended his contract recently), etc.

Not seen any of these guys in a full game, so I don't know if they're truly any good. I just wanted to name-drop a bunch of guys so I can circle back to boast if / when one of them does actually succeed a few years from now. 😀

...and I'm sure it's the way FSG would like to do it, but it relies on being able to spot the right players and get the deals done before anyone gazumps us, which we've signally failed to do for a long time.

If failing to go for the right players is down to that stats geek Michael Edwards, and if he's shown the door for the van Dijk lash-up, there may be a grim kind of upside to this whole sad business after all.

Issa Diop is an interesting one, but he's only 20 years old. I've seen Stark play a few times and he looks like a great prospect but he's mainly played as a defensive midfielder, and he's only 20.

If we're going to fix our defensive issues we need a CB that can start for the first team now, and improve it.
I'm sure there are players out there we can get but after van Dijk ans Süle I'm not sure who I want that fits the commanding cb type we're looking for.

Koulibaly is one, but he'll cost a shitload. Lindelöf maybe?
 
Heard Forren was released from Brighton after his sensational 4 months. He played (or at least was paid) for Southampton at one stage so got this one ticked off as well.

We need to land a target and soon. And properly. No fannying around. We've messed up the vvd deal and salah is still up in the air. What does that say to any prospective targets? Or clubs we may approach to deal with?
