Babel

Babel was poor against Spurs but he needs to be shown a bit of faith. Give him a few more run-ins and then make our decision whether to drop him or not.

Judging solely on behalf of the Spurs game Ngog should be starting ahead of Torres come Stoke really.

Torres is allowed an off game. He has deserved and earned our patience after a poor game.

babel presented zero threat today okay, that's fair enough.
who DID present a threat today?

did ANYONE have a shot on target?
apart from johnson bursting into the box who carried the ball into spurs' penalty box?
who tested the keeper?
how many shots did the entire team have on target in 90 + mins of football?

In answer to your question. The little Israeli chappie who came on for...oh what's his name again? *scratches head*

Babel can fuck off. He was useless and whilst other players like Gerrard and Torres were also bad, they do get more leeway on the basis that thye have good games now and again.

Im with Khl, show a bit of faith in the lad, It can't do any harm, he's clearly got talent and the only way he'll improve is by playing football, Give him 45 and then bring Riera on for the second 45.

Yossi to start ahead of Dirk to give him a kick up the arse

Who should Dirk get a kick up the arse after one game?

If Ryan Babel got subbed at half time he'd probs throw himself in the Mersey.

To those who say Benitez should have patience with Babel. What about Hammill?!? Despite performing well in the reserves and on loan I would say he was entitled to at least a few first-team games here and there but he was never given the opportunity. I say loan Babel to Wrexham and make him earn the right to pull on the jersey. I don't like it when managers select players based on reputation. If there's a younger, unknown player in reserve but has shown great form that would benefit the senior team I would rather he be chosen than somebody just because he cost £11 million. I just watched a YouTube clip of his highlights in a Liverpool shirt and most of the footage is of him shooting wide and then that goal against Derby County, Derby feckin County. I appreciate his goals against Utd, and in the Champions League versus Arsenal and Chelsea but Benitez now has to either stick him up front or get rid.

Cause he's exactly the sort of player that you'd get a reaction out of - You'd get a completely different Kuyt after that.

It's fair to say that Ryan babel is the complete opposite.

I hope Rafa doesn't play him against Stoke, because he's quite clearly, despite the usual sympathisers, really fucking shit.
Babel is useless as a starter, I think that much is pretty clear. He needs to play against shit teams who'll give him time and space on the ball. In that respect, Stoke might be a chance for him to make up for a dire showing yesterday.

It's either that or let him run at tired defences late in a game. That's why he developed a reputation as an impact sub in his first season - because the games had slowed sufficiently for him to have that extra split second to make a decision. The problem is when we face quality opposition, where the pace is furious and space is at a premium. That's when he gets properly found out.

It's a shame really, because on his day, he can be devastating. I just think Benitez has to pick the right situations to play him, and more often than not that's going to be as a substitute.
Correct, correct, correct.

We say it all the time, but he's got ability and the right assets to be good, but he isn't. Like Wahlberg at the start of Boogie Nights; a big cock, but no idea what to do with it. Hopefully Rafa turns into Heather Graham. I don't know where I'm going with this.

Kuyt to get a kick up the arse?

He covers more ground than most of the team. His "kick up the arse" may lead him to perform MARGINALLY better attacking wise, but will be a massive lose defensive wise whoever replaces him.

A non starter of an idea for me.

But Kuyt doesn't need one, he's a self motivated player. From time to time he might find himself in a rut but he doesnt need a 'kick up the arse' after one game.
