I guess this is a Romario, but LFC have agreed terms for Babel with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim of the Bundesliga.

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/reds-agree-babel-deal

Liverpool FC this afternoon announced they had accepted a bid from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for the transfer of Dutch international Ryan Babel.

The Bundesliga Club have now been given permission to discuss personal terms with the player, who has travelled to Germany.

I won't be sorry if he signs for them. Babel is fast and athletic and always looks as if he is just about to do something good, but it never happens.

Well, hardly ever. :-[

It all looked so good in theory too:

The pace of an Henry
The strength and power of a Drogba
The shot of a Gerrard

Pity it turned out he had the footballing brain of a Dreambeliever.

When we played Napoli at home in the Europa Cup there were some Italian fans sitting by me. The guy sitting next to me tapped me on the shoulder and asked if No. 24 was Ryan Babel. I explained that it was Ngog and Babel wasn't playing. He looked delighted and said that was a good thing for Napoli seeing as how Babel is such a fantastic player.

I said "no" and tapped my head in a meaningful sort of way. ;D

[/quote]The Napoli fan was right. We should always have played Ryan.

I take it you are saying that in a tongue-in-cheek, wind-up sort of way, Oncey? 😉

The dead wood must go. Now ship out Poulsen, Lucas, konchesky, ngog, jovanovic, Insua, spearing and a couple of goalkeepers to start with. That would be a good window (by our measures). Bring in a few quality players for the money And oh! Bring back Aquilani as a super bonus.

Glad he's going, he's fucking shit. Hopefully this is just the start of the clear out of monumentally shit players that we have on our books.

FFS there seem to be more sentimentalists than I could ever give credit for on here.
The thing that really annoys me is that Brum were offering £10m for the useless cunt in the summer.

Hodgson wanted to play him as a striker, either alongside or as a replacement for Torres. Pity the dithering either old fool did neither.

"I'm not that disappointed not to bring in another striker because I don't think there was a great choice of centre-forwards out there for any of the teams," said Hodgson.

"We didn't see much movement in terms of strikers between the Premier League clubs because I think there are a lot of clubs chasing a very particular type of player. It was only after the sale of Mascherano that it would have been possible for me to have the money available to do a transfer at a high enough level.

"The shortage of time bothered me and I would have been concerned we were jumping into something without researching it fully. Quite frankly I didn't see the players out there that really excited me to spend the amount of money those players cost. I would prefer to put my weight behind David Ngog and Ryan Babel - who has never been given a proper chance at centre-forward - because we have Torres and good players who can play behind a lone striker.

I didn't see the players out there that really excited me to spend the amount of money those players cost. I would prefer to put my weight behind David Ngog and Ryan Babel.

"I will be using these players in some of the games in order to give Fernando the rest he needs and it will be up to them to prove to me there is no need for us to look further than those to players as Fernando Torres' competitors because they are perfectly good enough to do the job.

"They will get their chances and we will see if they take them but I am hoping between now and Christmas we will have ample quality and possibilities to see us through that period."

In hindsight he was a fucking ace manager wasn't he? He knew Masch was leaving about 3 weeks before the window close, but didn't research (a) a replacement or (b) a striker to use the money on. He then moaned about it to the press, bought Poulsen and Konchesky for about £10m combined (obviously the research worked there you melted waxwork faced fuckwit) and gave H&G £7m.

ARRRRGGGHHH, everytime I re-read it I want to cave his head in with a spade! "It was only after the sale of Mascherano that it would have been possible for me to have the money available to do a transfer at a high enough level. The shortage of time bothered me and I would have been concerned we were jumping into something without researching it fully."

FUCK OFF, you only bothered to try and research a replacement....errr striker...once you knew that world class yet mardy cunt Mash and his homesick for Spain (where she had never lived) bint were off? Fucking hell.

Hodgson was and is an utterly shit manager, but that's a tad harsh,Ian.

As I remember, it was Babel who refused to leave..although Ryan has suggested that it was Rafa who turned it down in the end due to a injury crisis.

As for HOdgson's inanity in buying those 2 pieces of shit; I think he basically thought he had to fix both DM and LB at a combined total of 10 million odd; and he failed gloriously...but considering that's been the Liverpool Standard every year (ie buy shit player at x price because you cant afford y player and then replace him after 2 years with hopefully slightly less shit player and rinse and repeat) Hodgson should have tried to promote from whatever dross he had left.

Because all he did was add more shit players to the wage bill.

As for the money H&G took, well Hodgson was appointed precisely because he was the kind of spineless creature that would have accepted it meekly knowing that the morons in the media would just cluck disapprovingly about how HOdgson had such a big problem and wasnt he so brave in trying to fix it.

Hoffenheim sporting director Tanner confirms that Babel has to make a decision btwn several clubs. He doesn´t expect a decision this week.

Surely if this is the case, we could get a bit more money for him?

Ryan Babel has gone nowhere yet. He's been at Anfield Junior School today as part of an #lfc community programme.

I wish he would just leave now so we can use the money before the window closes. If we are left to fish around on the deadline day we will end up signing even more rubbish.

On Tuesday it appeared the Bundesliga side had bagged their man after Liverpool had given permission for the Dutch international to join them. But 24 hours later Hoffenheim director Ernst Tanner suggested Babel was in contact with a number of rival suitors.

"He's got plenty of choice between several sides, I don't think we'll be getting a decision from him this week," Tanner told German news agency SID. "We're convinced that we are the ideal club for him in this present situation," he added.

Let him just go to Ajax. De boer wants him and I'm pretty sure that it will be a deal maker with Suarez coming to us.
