Babel Out, Mata In?

Just out of interest... what makes you think he's like Riera?

I don't really get the comparison.

Left footed and Spanish. They're all the same. A bit like black masseurs.

I don't think I've ever seen Mata. I take it he's not in the same mould as Silva then, because you didn't like Silva at all, did you?
Me? Yeah i liked Silva. I like Mata too. I just dont want to lose any of our crown jewels. I also wouldnt swap Torres for Heskey.
Ahhhh that's different then I thought he said Babel

regards

Presume people are putting two and two together and getting 5. After all they are both left footed Spaniards.

It's semantics really since he's not particularly similar to Kuyt, Garcia, or Riera.

I'd swap Babel for a half chewed Biro.
Yep, about sums it up.
I was watching highlights of when we played Madrid at Anfield last night, and Babel looked really good in that game too. I wish we'd just give him a run of 5-6 games in a row and in the same position.

I'd still deffo swap him for Mata though.

sorry but i dont get this unless your seeking the irony line here.

I would gladly see the back of babel but dont know enough about mata to comment whether or not he is worth the cost noted

Is it just me or is KHL's description of a player is always way off the mark?

When he says somebody is good in the air, the guy turns to be a shit house in the air (Agger/Skrtel).

When he says somebody is "good physical adjust", the guy turns out to be a poof...

I can't think of anyone else who would come on here and describe Juan Mata as a hard working player like Kuyt....it's amazing.
Read my initial post again.

And when have I ever said Agger/Skrtel is GOOD in the air? You can't just make things up whenever you're running out of facts. And who's the poof btw?
Poulsen, I think.
Haha yeah I kind of remembered about him a few minutes after posting as well.

And yes he's looked very poof-ish but that's not the way I recall him at all. Quite the opposite really but maybe I'll get that one wrong. Will be interesting to see how he copes against Meireles tonight.

KingJulian however is just mad at me I reckon for making him look like a bit of fool a few weeks ago. He'll be alright. I reckon. Don't care actually.

Umm... you probably won't like this, but Mata is closer to Riera than to Kuyt or Luis.
Only a bit quicker in the head and feet. Which was the only thing stopping him from being regarded as a top class player.
Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I'd really like Mata here.

Well I was making the point that he was nothing like Luis or Kuyt in answer to previous posts.

So it's not like I watch Mata and think 'he's a lot like Riera'. I just think it's a more accurate comparison.

Hard to say exactly why. I suppose a combination of stature, style and ability. They share many strengths from what I have seen: touchline play, close control, intelligent in the pass, good runs when the ball comes in from the opposite wing, etc.

I think Riera was a bit stronger on the ball but Mata has the pace to get away from a man rather than have to hold him off.

I've had to ask my friend why he mentioned Kuyt in the same sentence as Mata as you guys are giving me a hard time over it.

He says they are very similiar in terms of value for the team. He's constantly running up and down the sideline not affraid of running those extra yards to stop their opponents attacks. That's a bit like Kuyt.

He scores around the same ammount of goals from that wide position too.

He's faster though and his technique and first touch are better. (In his opinion he's a better player than our Dirk and I slapped him over the nose for saying this of course).

Riera for me - and especially not Lil Luis - had any of those hardworking trademarks at least had they?

Out of curiosity Keni if you'd like to explain someone who hasn't seen a lot him, who does he remind you of in terms of style and play?

Well, if someone described to me a 5'7 Spanish versatile attacking midfielder with good technique and decent scoring record, I wouldn't be thinking of Kuyt who is a workhorse or Riera who is a slow traditional winger who looks lost whenever he's asked to stray too far from the comfort of the left wing 40 yards from the oppositions goal.

I don't really think work ethic is a basis for comparing players. Iniesta works hard too, but you'd never compare him to Kuyt and I'd sooner compare Mata to Iniesta than I would to Kuyt.

I'm not sure Mata's renowned for the same footballing-intelligence as Iniesta nor playing in the same position but anyways I'll leave it there. Just passing on the info I got.

I'd take him over Babel at this stage in an instant anyways.

On-form, back-in-the-day Joaquin?

Yeah Joaquin is about 6 foot and more of a traditional winger.

Mata is busy, hard working, technically great and can play on the left or behind the striker.

Joaquin's massive

Oh yeah, forgot. Been a while since he was relevant.
