Babel: "I'd never talk to The Lying Rag"

Liverpool winger Ryan Babel has angrily brushed off tabloid reports that there have been dressing-room problems at Anfield, by insisting that he would never give an interview to The Lying Rag.

Babel asserted that the quotes attributed to him were badly translated excerpts from an interview he gave in Holland, and that there are no problems between him and his club team-mates.

"I was very disappointed when it came out because I never gave an interview here in England - I never gave an interview to The Lying Rag," Babel told his club's official website.

"I did give an interview in Holland a month ago when I was with the national team, and I think they took some bits out of it and added some of their own opinions.

"They wrote that I'd talked about other players - and I would never talk about players like that.

"The funniest thing was them publishing that I'm not friends with Dirk Kuyt. Come on! Dirk will tell you how our relationship is.

"It has to be made clear. Who published this? The Lying Rag - I wouldn't talk to The Lying Rag.
"I am very happy that the boss made it clear straight away that he had confidence in me and believed that I didn't do the interview.

"I hope people understand. It is easy to read papers and believe it's true, and so I was disappointed with the situation and the fact it was published on the day of a very important game.

"I have spoken to a few of my team-mates and they were clear that it was The Lying Rag and so it was nothing."
Babel also affirmed his desire to battle for a regular starting spot with Liverpool as he looks to seal a place in the Netherlands squad for next summer's World Cup in South Africa.

"I have given a lot of interviews about my feelings and how I am but the situation is the same for every player who likes to play games and thinks he is good enough to start," he added.

"I feel confident that I'm good enough to play a lot of games for Liverpool. I keep saying this. Hopefully I'll get chances to show this.

"I was disappointed with the injury (against Man City) because I'd been given another start and had to leave the pitch after 20 minutes.

"I have to keep working hard and I'm not at the point yet where I've shown what I can do.

"For every player it's nice to go to the World Cup and it's very important to do that in your career.

"As far as I'm concerned the way to do that is to fight for my place at Anfield, definitely."

I think it's his third saving grace actually.

He's one of the few players we've got with any pace, and is also someone who can strike a ball for more than 15 yards out.

Not saying he's any good, but I still see a role for him here.

Fair play to the lad for making a point out of not speaking to the scum.
Ive always liked Babel, will be an excellent squad player if he stays.

I hereby, on behalf of all SCM's gun-jumpers, forgive and welcome back into the fold, the enigma that is Ryan "Shot Like What !" Babel.

*applause*

Play him every week and you'd have a great player.

Show him you have confidence in him and you'd have a great player.

Sadly Rafa does neither.

🙁

I'd love to see him on our right wing.

Ok, my apologies. I thought you were being facetious.

Yes it's Rafa's fault that Babel's shit.

Another poor buy unfortunately. It would be interesting to know the players Rafa signed during his tenure as Valencia manager.

Not entirely no, but certainly to an extent.

Rafa has rarely if ever shown the ability to develope a young player.

Babel is shit. Rafa can be blamed for buying him, but not for him being shit.
Heh, that's the George we remember.

I personally think that if Babel had been played as consistently when fit as Riera then we'd have got more out of him. Having said that he's an infinitely more frustrating player than Riera which would make it a tough decision to keep playing him.

Here you go dreamy:

Insua
Torres
Kelly
Agger
Skrtel
Lucas
N'gog
Insua has proved nothing bar the fact that he's very average at best so far. I would have thought Rafa would improve his positonal play but even that has been missing.

Kelly has played what 2 games? How can you judge him?

Agger has not improved one bit in fact I'd say he's gone back. His passing from defence was excellant when he signed. It's anything but now.

Skittles - Has not improved either.

Lucas - thats just laughable.

N'Gog - still looks as rough around the edges as he did in pre season.

And that leaves your magical list with Torres, who a world class player with a world class attitude and he was that way when he arrived. If anything Torres has proven how poor Rafa is in this department. If you are not 100% professional and a model pro you are almost certain to fail under Rafa's guidance as a young player.

Yuor going to disagree and fair enough if you think Rafa's abilty with young players is anywhere near that of Ferguson or Wenger.

Fowler scored 7 goals after coming in Jan and got is into the top 4.

He scored for 4 games on the bounce and lifted the entire club when we were on awful run.

He scored the winner against Bolton and set us on the way against Fulham for our biggest win of the year.

He was a good free signing.

You have a better memory than me Sir. Perhaps the Fowler transfer should be changed to good. I hope others will back you up because Fowler was/is a hero of mine. I just don't remember him making much of an impact and it was more a sentimental signing.

Every one of those players is better now then when they first signed for us. We'd make a profit on everyone of them too.

Bang it.

So we would make a profit on Skittles and the new Darren Anderton.

Rightio.......

And you still owe me an apology.

Ryan, did you find the list of players signed by Rafa for Valenica? Add it to this thread please. Thanks in advance.

Spudgun, would you like me to tell everyone that it was you who sent me the PM demanding I stop calling Dreamy "dreamy" cos it's aking to calling me "Ryanny"?
