Very nice words from the Arsenal player however he clearly hasn't been at Anfield for a CL group tie or a Premier league game against non top four opposition or Everton in recent years.
I was thinking that. Try coming to an early Sat kick off against Fulham & see how loud & vociferous we are then.

him saying one thing and then turning us down is something else.

we never made a bid for him in the summer.

if we had made a bid then and he'd turned us down then that'd be ok. as it stands we chose keane over arshavin.
I recall reading that we made a late bid for him in Jan... anyone else remember something along those lines?

OK, OK, point taken

As Wilko said unless it's one of the big games, it's no better than anywhere else, in fact it's possibly worse than many.

I feel sorry for Anfield virgins who come expecting to soak up the atmosphere.

When it's good , it's fucking unbelievable when its poor it's decidedly average, particularly in a slump.

United , Everton and to a lesser extent Chelsea and that's about it, apart from the odd big CL game

To be fair the kop was fairly loud on a Monday night against Birmingham. Although i was in the kop so cannot judge properly the volume it seemed quite loud around me, but not over 90 minutes.

The fact that the crowd is split on numerous things including the manager, tactics and players doesnt help. I saw two heated arguments in the space of 90 minutes. One over Dirk Kuyt and the other over Lucas. Its easy to sing when we are winning so it seems.

Shame, I have many many fond memories of all sections of the ground but our "special" atmosphere is nothing special anymore except for the big nights.

It's a bit of a which came first the chicken or the egg situation.
Should the crowd really get behind the team and get them playing, or should the team show some guts and get the crowd going and give them something to shout about?
Probably both, is the real answer

If only we'd have bought him when we had the chance. He'd have been a re-incarnation of Beardsley for us.
You could only love the dopey look he gives when scoring if it was for your team.

Its almost as bad as Henry's.

Having said that I'd have loved us to get him.

Imagine we got him instead of Keane and saved 5M.

How do we ever know whether we did or did not make a bid, except for Barry? But for some, those we missed out was never ever bid on. Spill milk and spitting dummies syndromes!

Yeah, it has to be a bit of both Vlad.
I was at Fulham(h) last November (Jesus, a whole year has passed since I have visited Liverpool!) and it was fucking shit. The crowd were sitting there completely quiet. The players were getting fierce abuse from the Kop.

You can even hear it on the telly though, the atmosphere is shit at Anfield.

I just think a lot of season tickets aren't as passionate as they once were about supporting the club, and it's led to a decline in atmosphere - familiarity breeds contempt, etc. Shaking the system up would improve it no end, IMO.

Having a dead stadium when the waiting list for a ST is years and years isn't right.

The waiting list is particularly big. I also think that with the lack of atmosphere there people going for the first time are not going to start songs are they. Winning ways is the only thing to fix this issue im afraid.

I wrote a long and boring epistle some time ago on it.
The problem, in my view, was not the seating of the Kop in itself, but the fact it is comfy and nearly all season ticket. I used to frequent the Kop all the time, long before it was seated, because it was a younger mans place, and the scheme of things used to be as you got older your inherited a stand season ticket or one came up on the waiting list and you moved out. Allowing younger noisier more volatile fans in the Kop and so kept this "churn" going and a predominantly younger age group.
The problem now is why move on? You have your seat with all your chums, so what's the point of paying more to sit in the Main Stand or centenary. Say the average age was 25 when it was seated 15 years ago, it means it's 40 now, not that 40 is old, but it does mean that an increasing number will be in their fifties.
