The Arsenal boss did not look happy as he fell on his backside while carrying suitcases through train station
He slips, he falls - Arsene takes a tumble

Arsene Wenger suffered a double blow yesterday when he took a tumble after his team, Arsenal, were hammered 5-1 by Liverpool.

Manager Wenger was rushing through Liverpool Lime Street station with players to get the train back to London when he slipped and fell heavily on his backside.

The 64-year-old is pictured pulling along a suitcase as he enters the station, but once he is through the doors, he slips almost hitting his head on a pane of glass.

The Frenchman grimaced in pain and rubbed his behind as two British Transport Police officers helped him up.

A club spokesman said: “He’s fine."

Taking the train back to London? And then in London taking the tube from Euston station to the Emirates? WTF?

Not that uncommon.

The club's coaches often pull almost up to the doors of the train in lime st (pissing off taxi drivers in the process) so teams from that there London or elsewhere darn sarf can get home on the train, usually the coach bombs it down the motorway to try to meet the players at the other end, which I find bizarre though (I only found out the last bit when I heard an interview on the radio with the Arsenal chef who mentioned it last week).

Oh, & of course, the team has their own carriage with security.

Thant's news for me. Thanks for clarifying!

I was at Anfield for the West Ham game and hurried back to Lime St. station to catch the train back to London.
No West Ham players on it. Only their (not-so-friendly) fans...

I also find it strange that the same coach has to race with the train 😀 They could have arranged a coach in London and one in Liverpool. Would have made more sense.

It's mad. I doubt the London team coaches manage it, cos the direct train would almost always be there before any coach would.

The last picture is brilliant. It's like he's being arrested for falsely impersonating a football manager.

It would be even better if somebody could photoshop the photo to make it look like he pissed himself

When I played college basketball we only took planes and buses. Don't they have their own private plane?

It'd take longer to get to the airport in Liverpool, then from the airport in London, than it would the train from Liverpool to London (or nearly as long anyway).

England is tiny compared to the US. In fact, it's tiny compared to some US states!

Apparently the train driver was a Scouser and said ' we will be arriving at our destination in 1 2 3 4 5 minutes.

Seriously? I had no idea they did that. The coach would have no chance at all of getting back to Euston to collect the players. For a coach it would be a 4 hour drive on a good day.

Was on Earth would be the benefit to Arsenal of this kind of arrangement?

That's true in theory. However I made that journey 4 times in the first week of December and it was nowhere near 2 hours....

Unlucky. I make it about 30 times a year and it's been delayed once. Must have been the wrong type of rain

The arrangement almost succeeded in getting rid of Wenger without dealing with any criticism.

I find it hilariously funny and satisfying to see an Arsene Wenger team get thumped by us, but I cant see anything remotely funny about seeing Arsene Wenger, or any 63 year old person for that matter, take a fall on the floor. Sorry.

How old are you Jack and how are you on your feet?

A lot less clubs do it now, but the Arsenal head chef used lime st as an example of their coach dropping players off at the train.

I assume the main benefit is the speed of return to London & being able to stretch their legs, I'd assume sitting still for 4 hours, even after a warm down, may not be the best thing for tired muscles.
