Arsenal Vs Liverpool Match Thread

I know. Our midfield has been awful for a long time now.

The main positive so far is that we came into the game with the right attitude and the players look willing to work.

That aside, we're being pushed back too deep and are hopelessly reliant on the front two (nothing new again).

We're so badly in need of an Alonso.

Completely agree. NONE of our midfielders can control the pace of a game.

Well, maybe Allen, but he never gets a kick

Couple of lazy moments from players who should be bang on it... bit of nerves too...

That Sakho is a bit of a monster isn't he...

Take off Flanagan. Bring on Coutinho. Not because Flanno has been bad or anything

I wouldn't be surprised if we revert back to a more traditional formation at half time. They seem to have ten men in midfield and Giroud looks isolated. All their threat is coming from midfield through Cazorla.

I don't think we've been all that poor, we've had our flashes and decent possession in the attacking third. Easily could have had a goal there.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think we could be winning right now if we had a player of Jon Flanagan's form at LWB. Flanagan has looked excellent, and Cissokho has been terrible.

Coutinho and Moses on please. But we have to pass simply - we had absolutely no need too keep giving the ball away just outside our own area. And Suarez is maddening in these kinds of games - he can't run through Arsenal's defence, so pass the bloody ball!

This game is calling out for a good DM to dirsrupt their play and a good AM to link midfield and forwards for us, but sadly we have neither.

Lucas is not a good enough DM and we always need an extra man to complete his role. That is the reason we couldn't field Coutinho, who could have been quite useful today.

It's frustrating to watch. I'd take Cissokoh off and bring in some one ...anyone....Raheem?

But more importantly, i'd take Lucas off, push Hendo back and bring Coutinho on.

Well, we came ready to graft and so far it doesn't look like it will be quite enough to get something out of the game now that Arsenal have settled into their usual rhythm

3-5-2 is all well and good but you need more than two very pedestrian wing-backs. I really hope Rodgers the courage to change things early in the second half if we don't see a quick improvement. We've got attacking options on the bench (for a change) and Arsenal's defence can be got at - we just need to give ourselves more of a chance.

Cissohko --> Agger
Skrtel --> Moses
Henderson / Lucas --> Coutinho (later on)

-------------------- Ming
Flanno ---- Toure -- Sakho --- Agger
------------ Gerrard -- Lucas
------------ Hendo (Coutinho)
--- Suarez ------- Sturridge ----- Moses

Cissokho has been dreadful and is booked. If anyone is going its him.

Yup. Flanno to my surprise has done alright. Cissokho's been as shit as ever. We really miss Enrique. Players simply don't waltz past him the way they do with Cissokho, and he also always tries to pick out Suarez's diagonal runs, while Cissokho just looks fucking clueless with the ball.

Half time positives:

Back three have been fantastic - Toure quality on/off the ball, Sakho a monster, Skrtel very solid.
Sturridge has held the ball up really well and looks dangerous
Suarez is Suarez

Negatives:

Lucas has looked well off the pace
Gerrard's struggling to keep up with the game
Henderson is all energy and little quality
Cissokho has little quality going forward

Changes?
Go 4-3-3.
Sakho to left-back, Cissokho off.
Coutinho for Cissokho, left of the top 3.
Allen on for Lucas.

Rodgers' reliance on this 5-3-2 has gone too far. It's completely pointless when your wing-backs are championship level players.

Choose a CB pairing, and fix the midfield - you can still play Suarez and Sturridge as the two up front in a diamond formation.

Theres been 18 2nd half goals at arse this season, so we gunner get spanked or get back in.. Coutinho to come on

Carping and whinging wise, it has been clear for a while that we have 3 or 4 players who lack in ability and don't really contribute very much and that has continued today...

That said we have pretty much matched Arsenal so far IMO and we can get back into the game... a kick up the arse might do wonders...or swap that midfield around a bit, neither Hendo or Lucas are playing well today.

By the same token they've lost a few recently, it'd be interesting to see if we landed one how strong their chin is..

didn't see the bench tho...Coutinho back yet??

It's calling for players who can keep the ball and not try hollywood flicks, through balls and dribbles past eight players every five minutes. But then it'd be nice if players had more passing options. Arsenal, for example, work hard for each other when they're in possession. Liverpool for years now think it's okay to stand around waiting for the ball to come to you.
