Arsenal might lose Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy this summer....

So conventional wisdom points to us, as fans generally singling out Man City as the team to overtake if we are to get back into the Champions League, but with Arsenal potentially losing their two best players (should Cesc finally piss off to Barca and Nasri making a surprise move to Utd) and their first choice left back, they might seriously struggle next season.

Basically my point is, we need to capatalise on this, if we're to get back in the CL, beacause Arsenal are certainly looking more vulnerable than City at the moment.

Thoughts?

I'm not really that bothered about Arsenal to be honest.
I'm more worried about how we perform. It's in our own hands so to speak.
Capitalizing on Arsenal being weakened seems a tad bit defeatist.

Focus on your own team first and foremost, of course, but there's nothing wrong with taking an interest in your rivals either.

Don't see the problem myself.

There is no problem.

If we don't bring in the right players it becomes irrelevant as we'll just be watching other clubs profit.

It's not about taking an interest. When the season starts and we're challenging for the League title (I hope), of course I'll keep an eye on the other top teams performances.
But I'm not gonna sit idly by and expect Ars, Man U, Chavski etc to gift us the title.
I know it sounds corny but we have to perform better than the other teams in the league in order to win it. In an ideal world we'd take poll position at the start of the season and keep our distance to the rest until we win it.

And Bendtner.

Straight fight between Barca and Real Madrid for his services isn't it?

My point seems to have become lost in translation somewhat.
Basically fourth place has sort of become viewed as an uphill struggle because City can go and spend £200m in the transfer window and think nothing of it and its always been assumed Arsenal will never be weak enough to drop out, but the cracks are starting to show in the Arsenal squad, was pretty much alls I was getting at.

You joke, but I know of at least one person who believes Bendtner is top draw and his name is, er, Nicklas Bendtner.

I thinlk arsenal have shit loads of money to even out spend citeh if needed. I'm not willing to say "rest in peace" just yet...

They're going through what we've been going through for a while except they've got CL football.
Their best players want to leave or have left and they haven't won anything for a while.
So yeah, you're right it seems that they're heading downhill.
Are we strong enough to overtake them?
It depends on how this summer ends.
New signings, copa america, injuries, fatigue all play a vital role on how the coming season will pan out.
Thankfully our season will start in mid August so hopefully those playing in South America this summer and our injured players will have enough time to rest and/or gain fitness.

Wonder what our Danish contributor will have to say about that.

it'll be interesting to see what arsene does if he loses all these players, in a strange way I think it could help the team

they should get sneijder, makes gibbs first choice left back, sign some centre backs, persist with szcesny(spelling?), dump bendtner and chamakh, consider playing walcott as a striker at times and build team around wilshere in general

Don't think Sneijder would be interested in Arsenal if Nasri and Fabregas leave mate. Not when he has Man U and Citeh looking him.

Agree that they do need to make some big changes to their squad.

Well, its no secret Bendtner is up his own arse, but if you're talking about KHL, I remember him saying we should make a 'cheeky £15m' bid for him.

True and I know it's totally out of character for wenger but I think a signing like that would be very important in appeasing the fans and showing everyone that the club isn't a sinking ship - much like when we brought in carroll for torres. Plus have they ever had a shit dutch player? They probably have but bergkamp and overmars were amazing for them.

Arshavin and denilson are supposed to be going too, thats an entire midfield they could lose 😱

I'm just waiting for Arsenal to announce that they've signed Hazard, Cissokho, Gourcuff and Yann M'Vila.
You just know that they're gonna go French.

That is, if they sell Fabregas, Arshavin etc.

The problem is for the last decade Arsenal have been losing good players and managing to replace them while having a negative net spend. (Since 2003 they've spent -2m)

They now have bucketloads of cash to throw about if needed. So since Wenger has managed to keep Arsenal in the top 4 without significant funds for a decade I'm not all the confident that now that he has a wedge they'll be easy to dislodge.

Man City look like they might lose Tevez, or at least be a bit messed about by him. If they're at all concerned by the FFP rules they need to shift a lot of players off their wage bill - Adebayor, Jo, Bellamy, Bridge etc - not many people will be keen to take those players on the laughable wages they earn. If they're concerned about the FFP rules they'll be sitting ducks because they've wasted ridiculous amounts of money.
I don't think the FFP rules will affect clubs as much in the short-term as you think.
Agreed. We seem to be the only ones flapping about it and going all out for UK talent. Maybe in the long term it will benefit us but I put no faith in rules set by the governing bodies, they'll be bent like always.

They looked vulnerable to start last season too and but for their continuing mental shitness could well have won the title... they have a settled style and team which will always put them in with a good shout of finishing top 4, we as yet cannot say the same.

City have an excellent squad and will probably be better again next year.
Chelsea need pretty major surgery IMO
United will definitely need major surgery but it looks like they will do it well.
Spurs will not have CL distracting them.

Its going to be tough, very tough. For this reason alone i hope we buy an exciting player or two.

Since 2003 Arsenal may have had a negative net spend, but they're also going backwards in terms of results. They winning less and less trophies as they spend less.

They have, but it all depends on whether they hav the cash or will soon have the cash.

One,just one massive transfer window will silence all the doom-sayers.

I hate them, but the financial job done there is nothing sort of incredible.

Could that article be further up United's crack?

Manchester United yesterday began talks with Samir Nasri's representatives, as their early summer activity continued to frustrate Arsenal and leave other clubs trailing in their wake.

Indeed.

Hack writing, all prospective players for your fave club.... dirt cheap cant resist the allure of your beloved club..... all prospective players for your non fave club..... 200M wants 8M a week after tax doesnt like the local nightlife etc...

it is bullshit.

I would love to be a football hack, just writing what you fancy wheneevr you want causing as much havoc as you can.

Personally I reckon Nasri will stay at Arsenal and that they too will spend big this summer.

arsenal will always be a threat, their manager is too good. overmars and petit sold and they still challenged. vieira and henry sold and they still challenged.
