According to his gobshite agent....

Alvaro Arbeloa's agent claims the Liverpool defender is keen to leave Anfield to join Real Madrid.

The Spanish international's future at Liverpool is in doubt following Liverpool's big-money capture of Glen Johnson from Portsmouth.

Liverpool are in talks with Arbeloa over a new deal with the full-back entering the final year of his contract, but Reds boss Rafa Benitez has refused to rule out a transfer for the former Deportivo La Coruna man.

Real Madrid have confirmed their interest in Arbeloa along with team-mate Xabi Alonso and Arbeloa's representative Manuel Garcia Quilon believes Liverpool should let him move on.

"Alvaro has a year left on his current deal and Rafa Benitez knows that it's best to let him go now," Garcia Quilon told the Sunday Mirror.

"The career of a football player has many stages and he is qualified to play anywhere."

Apart from Athletic Bilbao 😉

Isn't Arbeloa's 'gobshite agent' also Rafa's agent? Why would he need to do this through the press when he could just phone him at home?

That's what I thought.

Looks like he's off anyways.

Because maybe whatever gobshite journalist in Madrid made this up forgot to do his research in order to find out they both have the same agent.

Or, maybe there's hint of truth to it. Forgetting any libel and litigation issues for a moment, it was run in the Sunday Mirror. Yes it is a shit rag which cares for sensationalism more than actual journalism, however they don't tend to provide direct quotes unless they actually have them.

if they offer 8, lets get rid, if they offer 5, lets keep him and then lose him on a free, he will do a better job at left back than dossena and can challenge johnson and push him. If there is a bid of 6.5m then I have no idea what we should do.

At the end of the day Alvaro was a decent guy, not the best right back in the world , but by no means the worst. He had more good days than bad and justified his £3m fee. He should have been no more than back-up to the slot but ended up being a fixture.
Having said that perhaps we forget how well he played on the left
I am quite comfortable exchanging him for Glen Johnston , but it would not have been my priority.
I still think we need another two players ahead of this . Another top class striker and perhaps a tricky right winger.

regards

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Don't leave Alvaro!!!
Seconded.

I would rather have him leave on a free next season than be left short at the back this season.

And in the meantime, we come up 8M short this summer, and instead of getting Silva/Tevez and any other first choice target we end up with Bellamy and Pennant Mk II.

Rafa has said he wouldn't have to sell to add another top player... obviously I would sacrifice Arbeloa if he is the difference that allows us to land someone like Silva.
I'm hoping that's not the case.

We need the money, it is obvious he is no longer Rafa's first choice and he now has a chance to go to Real - what is the problem ? Let him go - he gets what he wants and we get the money to help us get Silva or the like. We need a Silva far more than Arby at LB or RB backup.

Thanks Arby - your input was appreciate and we wish you well.

Exactly.

I think it's fairly obvious he wants to move on, judging by what Rafa has said. No point keeping a player who's heart's not in it. We are a bit short now though, we need a player who can cover right back and centre back, ideally.

We might just rely on Degen as backup.
I can't really rate him, has he ever been fit? He might be another Aurelio I suppose..

The one or two times he actually played for us, he looked perhaps the most stupid footballer I've ever seen. Darby HAS to be better, surely?

Johnson - 1st choice
Carra - 2nd choice
Degen/Darby/Whomfuckingever - Can fight it out for 3rd choice.

It's not really that big an issue. If we can get 8M for a right-back we don't *really* need, then take it.

Spot on. And who can really blame him for wanting out?

He'll most definitely play second fiddle to Johnson for most part of the coming Season anyway.

Though I tend to agree mate Carra will NOT be happy with that list.

Carra will only play right-back if Johnson's injured, which is fine. The rest of the time he'll be first choice centre-back.

If true of course, Carragher gets away with refusing to play RB very, very lightly.

My point beeing, if Johnson get's injured for a longer period of time Carra will not be happy to deputise outthere at all. Maybe for one or two games he'll be alright but reading from his comments last Season about not wanting to play as a FB we could end up having to use Darby more than we would've liked.

Or even Injured-guy.

Do you think Carra picks the team?

As the years progress by, Carra will be happy to play anywhere.

No, it's not fine at all. We don't have ANY backup for Agger and Skrtel if Carra is playing RB. Besides, Agger-Skrtel is not an established CB pairing, they are both young and haven't been tested in big games playing as a pair. Besides, with Aurelio being injured so often and Dossena hopefully on his way out, we would need cover on the left too and Agger might be needed there. We simply don't have enough quality defenders to cover all positions. We are already kind of thin on defenders following Hyypia's departure and the disaster of D&D (Dossena and Degen), last thing we need now is to sell one of our better and more experienced defenders, especially one who can cover more than one position.

Carra, Aurelio and, to an extent, Arbeloa are the only experienced defenders we have in the team. If Arbeloa is sold, and Aurelio is injured, it only takes an injury or suspension to Carra to make our defensive line look very fragile and inexperienced: RB Johnson, who is young, new in the team and has a history of being error-prone in defense, LB Insua, who is even younger and not tested, + Agger and Skrtel in the middle, both young and not used to playing without Carra. There is no way we can be contenders for the title with a defense like that.
