He's been a disastrous 20m mistakeam The second one on the bounce by Benitez

Seriously, if you pay that kind of money and the player can't even get a game ahead of one of the worst CM players to wear the shirt, you should really think about quitting

We should have bought fucking Cattermole and spent the rest on a striker. Or left winger. Or left-back. Or right-winger. Or centre-back

not a single minute on the pitch in a game crying out for someone to dictate the pace of the game.
we coul have spent that 20 mil on darren bent and been much better off as a team.

It might have had more relevance on another day, but Benitez was never going to throw him into the cauldron in a tight game against Blackburn, nor should he. But yeah, he's out of favour. So what's new?

Haha. I didn't. But let's rescue it and make it brilliant

If only we had someone on here who had ever played the game, and perhaps was well-versed in tactics. Maybe even had a chalk-board?

It's a fair point Del but given most Premiership games are a bit of a battle, why bother buying a pansy?

What a silly thread, Aquilani was never going to play against Big Sam's mess...

...or those thugs at Bolton, or Stoke, or the vicious play of Man City, and Arsenal. Did you really expect him to play football, against another team which plays the same sport?

Joking aside, an incredible waste of money, and that's not even assuming he won't come good (but he won't, will he?).

Lovely, a thread for Brendan. Here you are sir....

*leaves this bullshit thread*

one thing about rafa when it comes to playing someone (or not) the transfer fee doesn't come into it. he spent 8 million on 'the doss' and played insua ahead of him and he paid 20 million for aqua and is playing lucas ahead of him.

It's obvious he has more talent and is more incisive than Lucas, but that's not really hard is it?

Certainly being 'better than Lucas' was about the bottom rung of my expectations for a 20m player who was bought to replace Xabi Alonso

Least Keane was given a chance and proved he was shit, Aquilani isnt even getting a chance to show if he is good enough.

Tee hee. I don't know whether to laugh or cry, but I'm laughing anyways.

He might come good, but defo worst signing of the year this time round. Rafa got it badly wrong.

4 starts - 4 wins
4 starts - 2 assists

He has more assists than Lucas and has 21 less starts.

most ridiculous argument ever

It wasnt an argument it was a point that if given the chance to contribute im sure he would, rather than Lucas's wonderful ability to get praised for doing fuck all.

True, though it just seems like another horrendous case of Rafa buying a player and not really doing his homework on how to play him and fit him into the side. It's obvious he's too lightweight (and injury prone) to play in central midfield, which leaves the hole position, which is currently occupied by one of the best players in the World. Well done Rafa.

Even if you look at the likes of Kuyt, he was brought in as a striker and played there for a while, until it was made obvious he wasn't really prolific or natural enough at it, or even quick enough, so he was shoved outwide.

Does Rafa actually watch half the players he signs?

Let's be fair, Lucas nearly had an assist today. It was a remarkable pass. His second in only 100 games.

Apart from that, he was dogshit, as usual.

As a signing, Aquilani's been disastrous, he really has.

But I maintain that he is a very good player. Fingers crossed we'll see it next year.

of course rafa could be handling aqua with kid gloves to match sure he is fully over his injuries ready to unleash him next season. we'll have to see how much he gets used next season.

I remember reading about how Ginsoak sent Rafa a letter congratulating him for Isanbul and commenting how he'd have done things differently.

The FA Cup aberration aside, I believe it was that hexed letter that turned Rafa to shit.

I've put this argument forward numerous times, and I'd love to know what goes on behind the scenes.

It wouldn't surprise me if names were plucked out of a hat.
