Aqua to Fiorentina

This article makes no sense, they're eager to get his wages of the books yet they're going for Aquilani.

Jugding that "he's an outcast", they don't need him so being eager to get "his wages off the books" may make sense. Whereas they need a replacement for Montolivio.

ALBERTO AQUILANI is on the brink of leaving Liverpool FC.

The Italian midfielder’s hopes of forcing his way into Brendan Rodgers’ plans have been dashed.

Aquilani wasn’t involved in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Tottenham in Baltimore and didn’t fly back to the UK with the Reds squad. The 28-year-old instead headed for Rome after being granted permission to hold talks with a number of Serie A clubs about a permanent move. Fiorentina are among those to have expressed an interest in signing him.

One stumbling block is Aquilani’s lucrative five-year contract, which he signed following his £18million switch from Roma in the summer of 2009. His salary at Anfield is an eye-watering £6.5million per year (£125,000 per week).

That makes agreeing personal terms elsewhere problematic, but Liverpool are hoping Aquilani’s desire to play regularly will convince him to accept a move.

With Milan having turned down the chance to buy Aquilani for £5million in May, Liverpool are unlikely to be able to command much of a fee.

Aquilani has been an expensive mistake since he was bought as Xabi Alonso’s replacement.

He was recovering from ankle surgery when he signed and during his first season at Anfield he struggled with form and fitness.

Aquilani scored two goals in 26 appearances but after the departure of Rafa Benitez he played just twice under Roy Hodgson before being packed off on a season-long loan to Juventus.

Last summer, Kenny Dalglish sent him to Milan and now Rodgers has also decided he doesn’t fit the bill.

Christ, the idea of those wages makes me ill. No wonder everybody kept passing him up despite him performing well.

TBF he reportedly offered to take a wage cut in an attempt to stay at Milan. I don't know how much of a cut he was prepared to accept though.

JJ, he wasnt.

He was willing to go if we made up the difference between what he's on now and what they were willing to pay him.

That may be so Judge, but he's obviously still looking for a fair whack going off his agents comments about Fiorentina not being able to afford the kind of money required. Given the amount of money he's on, the amount of injuries he has, the fact he's a lightweight and the fact he would clearly rather be back home, it's a no brainer, we need to free up the wage bill.

Noted, gentlemen, though I wonder how much that agent had to do with his stance on wages.

Overall I actually hope this goes through for his sake as well as ours. He needs to be playing regularly and it's pretty obvious where that'll have to happen.

Looks like LFC was the big soft daddy where lotsa money could be had since like dunno when.... ;( cheesed off

Question for those who believe we're getting 7m.

If the only other bid was in the region of 1-2m, and we were willing to sell him for 5m which was the release clause in the loan deal - why on earth would anyone in their right mind bid 7m ?

Maybe the answer to that question is £135,000 x 52 = £7,020,000.00.

Not sure how long is left on his contract.

I like how Aquilan's "reported" wage increased from 80K to 100K to 125K to 140K per week within a span of few weeks. By the time he leave he would earn about 200K per week.

Do you really believe this bullshit? He got a contract 3 years ago that he earned more than torres and gerrard and masherano? Why? Because he's the most hot player at the time? Or we were competing with ManCity. We had no money to buy Jovetic but instead paid over the odd for him? LOL

I like how the "new" liverpool use these propaganda whenever they want to dump the players. Kuyt, Maxi Aquilan. Wasn't it reported last year that Joe Cole was on 120K when they wanted to dump him? Now the new manager want him maybe his "new" wage would be 60K. Just like how Carra "new" reported wage is 65K. LOL

What propaganda was used wrt Kuyt? Maxi?

Joe Cole was always rumored around 100k. And ... well ... Shrek's e-mail said 105k ... So no difference.

As for Carra, where do you see this 'new' reported wage? Everyone's always though it was between 90-100 ...

Logic and facts should never be considered when Aquilani is the subject.
- he hates Liverpool
- his wife hates England
- even his mama hates Liverpool
- he orchestrated a loan move to Juve by feigning injury.
- Benitez never wanted him
- he makes 200 000k a week.
- Stewart Downing had more assists than him in his first season.
- He's the real reason Kenny got sacked.

Fiorentina, what bunch of idiots.
They're willing to buy Aquilani when everyone who knows anything about football know that Adam is twice as good as him.

"To put it into perspective, the £125,000 a week he is currently costing the Anfield club double what Anfield stalwart Jamie Carragher earns."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know if it really is propaganda but sure as hell I heard a lot more about players' wages since the new owners arrived. And most of them were rather illogical and ridiculous IMHO.

Such as how Maxi was on 100K or 120K when he was about out of contract with atletico madrid and no one bid for him. Then he would be equal to torres wage at the time?

Such as how meireles was on 45K when Poulson was on 65K. One was on his peak you paid 12M and the other was over the peak you paid 6M. Assuming you have 110K budget to spend, is it even logical to distribute this way?

It seems whenever we want to dump players now we will hear their "reported" wages soon.

Are LFC personnel talking about this actively? Or is it the media? There's a big difference. To be honest, I would be amazed if Carra was only on 65k/week (If only any of us earned that salary, eh?) ...

I don't know where you saw those figures for Maxi - and we purchased him (don't think he was freebie).

As for Meirless, one rumor was that he was on 30k (again - it was never confirmed by anyone, and the only player's salary we probably know is Johnny Rockets!) and that was supposed to be doubled, which it wasn't - and that's why he left.

I don't know if this is the 'norm' as I don't really follow other teams (Zlatan's wages are talked about etc) but I don't believe this is our doing as a club. If it is, I'd be very disappointed and angry like you ... But for now, I think it's just the media - assisted by FM's help - doing this.

Wiz you can't be naive enough to think the media aren't being briefed by the club to put a spin on things. We did it during the lead up to the Suarez hearing with 'Negrito'. We did it with Torres claiming he wanted out on the last day of the season when the reality was we had been negotiating for 12 days at that point. We did similar with Meirleles.

FSG did it in Boston with Francona, they did it with Youkilis.

Its the way they operate.

I think there's some holes there sir (Not with Suarez - but defo with Torres, who wanted out already, and Meirelss).

As for Francona/Youkilis - I never really followed this, so I have a very general picture of what happened.

I think 'spin' is always a factor in how clubs are managed, but throwing out players' salaries? Eh it just seems weird and was being done before FSG ...

Shut up modo, no one has created an argument for Adam staying instead of Aquilani and certainly not based on ability, that's just in your fantasy World and the reason why you harbour such hatred for Adam, because he's Scottish, fat and statistically about as productive. The main difference is that one can't tackle and one won't tackle. Let's put onus on the fact that one has the suarve Mediterranean look, and the other looks liked corned beef hash.

He's not getting much sympathy from the Echo, a front page picture with 'Pack your bags!' as the headline. Not something they'd usually do in an instance where a player is being dealt a wrong'un
