apparently we are back in for Villa...

Kuyt is rubbish if play as a RM in 4-4-2, can't see us revert to 4-4-2 without a proper right midfielder (winger).

We won't buy david villa.

it's a pity the owner can't dip into their pockets to finance a villa/silva combo
they have to pay the banks £60m so you can forget that

we're very limited in what we can do I imagine.

bullshit. Kuyt had a poor season the season before last but an excellent one last season and a lot of the earlier part of the season was with 4-4-2 with Keane and Torres up top. Buying Villa doesn't necessarily mean changing the system. Gerrard replaces Alosno and Villa replaces Gerrard.

*cough* if we got villa and gerrard moved into midfield, we'd have two midfielders capable of getting into double figures for league goals (kuyt being the other) *cough*

😉

That would be fucking excellent to see.

I'd quite happily take Masher/Lucas/Gerrard for the CM roles next season to have Torres and Villa upfront next season.

Me too.
Reina
Insua
Agger
Carragher
Johnson

Mascherano
Gerrard

Riera
Villa
Kuyt

Torres.

Thats a title right there.

In that case, we need to spend the money on a top midfielder then.

Say we do buy Villa and Gerrard is injured for 3-4 weeks. That leaves us with a midfield of Lucas and Masher. Then if one of them picks up a knock? What do we do? Back to Aurelio in midfield? Plessis? Spearing?

We'd be taking a massive risk going into the season with only two decent midfielders and Lucas.

So let's spend all the money on a top midfielder.

... and Gerrard is injured for 3-4 weeks. That leaves us with strikers of Torres and Voronin. Then if one of them picks up a knock? What do we do? Back to Ngog up front? Nemeth? Peacheo?
Funny you should conveniently forget Kuyt who played up front when Torres was injured last season. Suit your argument did it?

Looks good, I'd take that. Gerrard would get 20 goals a season from in nets so I'm not in the 'he must stay up front' camp.

Yup, and if Torres got broken we'd have an instant capable replacement.

Villa/Torres/Gerrard would have to be good for 100goals between them if they stayed fit all season.

Legend has it that the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were visiting Australia once, and were introduced to a lumberjack. Apparently Phil the Greek asked him how much wood he could chop down in a day, and the answer came back: "About a bloody ton".

"Steady on, old chap", grumbled the Duke.

"All right then, half a bloody ton".

🙁

But sometimes it's fun to text all your friends rumours. That's what I just did.

Plays on the right and are you saying Kuyt has the same ability as Gerrard or Torres up front? My argument still stands.

IF we had a 25m budget this summer, and we spent 8m on Johnson and then augmented it with sales of Arbeloa and Leto (6m) that still gives us 23m of our summer budget left.
If we sell Xabi for 30m that gives Rafa 53m to spend. I dont see why its seen as such a stretch knowing that Barcelona and Real arent in the market anymore that we could offer 40m for him and 13m for Aquilani.
I choose to believe this totally.

I like this.

As much as I'm caught in the hype of the Villa rumour right now, logic can't ignore the fact that we *need* another CM. Even if Gerrard plays in both roles through out the season, that's fine by me, but we shouldn't be relying on Lucas. Na uh.

how do you know what the budget is? you'll know after 31st but with the yanks having to pay 60 million to the banks Rafa is unlikely to have much at all, which is why he's holding out for a big fee for Xabi i'm guessing
I dont KNOW. Im speculating. But im using the fact that the stories when he resigned were that he would get a budget of between 20 and 35m depending on which paper you believe. I went low with my guess. I believe Rafa recieved financial guarentees when he signed. That all.
