Anyone mad enough to think this will be our year?

Very much doubt we will win the league.
At the moment the confirmed bits of good news we have is cole signing and stevie staying, and for me both are great news. Masher looks like he is definately going so we need to properly replace him and buy a left back or two and a striker if torres stays or two if he goes.
We have about four weeks or so to answer those questions and can then make a better judgement call rather than one based on our hearts and love for the club.
As it stands we I believe we wil miss out on 4th but a few more good signings and I might be more positive

Sorry but how can anyone guesstimate what will happen when we have unresolved issues all over the park ?

LB x2 / ST / DM / GK (back-up) ? Too many crucial decisions / transfers to really assess our potential just yet - but I like the progress being made.
Our back up goalkeeper and reserve left back are hardly season breaking crucial decisions.
We need a left back. That's where we stand right now.
Unfortunately Oncy that was what we thought before Torres was injured, or should I say we knew we would be in the shite if he was .... and we were. If, God forbid, Reina in particular, was injured we would be in (relatively) dire straits again. For me Cavalieri has proven to be a reliable stand-by - but he will be leaving due to those family issues, I don't think it fair for us to expect Gulacsi (sp.) to step up. Reserve LB - well yeah maybe I just wanted to cross the T's too although I accept we need to ensure we have a very strong 1st XI before thinking of squad depth ..... and then keep our fingers & toes crossed.

sigh...let's just concentrate on making top 4, eh?

manu - with always be there or there abouts
chelsea - will always be there or there abouts
arsenal - shouldn't be underestimated
spurs - have the CL money to spend
man city - have spent a fortune

making the 4 four will be difficult enough let along winning the thing
Agree that it is a tricky task but I think its realistic to look at a top 4 finish.

United and Chelsea are way ahead of us at the moment. The title is between the 2 of them again as I can't see either falling apart.

With the others it is something of a lottery.

Arsenal are inconsistent. They may well be great next season, hardly lose a game and win the thing but at the same time they might struggle to get top 4 - although I imagine they will make it in the end.

City have spent a lot that is true, but it might take them a while to get going. Buying loads of players doesn't always have the desired affect.

Have Spurs bought anyone yet? They may well make signings but remember they might also suffer from being in the CL. It has happened before. Teams get into Europe and their league form takes a hit. Could happen with Spurs.

Its worth remembering that all of these teams were not brilliant last season. We were shit. We had plenty of chances to secure a top 4 finish but kept fucking it up. It wasn't like we maintained a certain level and everyone else got better around us.

Positives are that Cole and no Insua should mean we aren't as shit

Who replaces Masher is crucial.

And if Lucas starts more than 15 Premiership games, we will not break the Top 4

I agree with Brendan, its no coincidence he started nearly every game and we finished 7, he is an absolute clinger on. Ok our big players didnt perform but when Aquilani contributed much more than him its evident to see he doesnt help the team by being in the starting 11.

While I totally agree with the sentiment, Lucas featured in 25 Premiership games when we came 2nd in 2009. So the original statement was obviously a little hyperbolic.

Yes, I'm potentially as mad as a hatter. A decent left back, a good replacement for the Argentinian and additional firepower up front will certainly help.

Last year's shite start resulted in the much expected challenge for the Title being over before it had even begun which caused much disillusionment throughout the playing staff and I'm sure most of them were aware that Benitez had to be talked out of leaving last January which can't have helped the general gloom. The players seemed to have given up on the manager and it showed in their performances.

Roy Hodgson is a players' manager who seems to be able to get average players operating at a much higher level. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with the resources available to him now as Liverpool manger and I'm confident we will see the team enjoying playing football under the new man. I have a very good feeling about what he will achieve and I'm excited about the new season.
that's different. We didn't have ANY backup to Nando, we do have cover for Reina. I don't know what all this stuff is about cavalieri leaving, but it isn't a position we have to worry about until be does. So adding it as a worry position when he hasn't left is a bit daft. Ditto Mascherano.
I repeat, right now we need a left back. Then we need to replace anyone who leaves with similar quality. It isnta huge ask.

Cavalieri - I though he had made it clear he had to return to South America & we had agreed to let him go (for a price) - family reasons ?
I've seen rumours to that effect but nothing out of the club. And even if he does leave, it's still only a problem if Reina isn't fit.
As always, any hope or expectation of us having a successful season is loaded with the caveat that our big players (Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano, Reina and Carragher) stay fit.
I think you're over selling our areas of weakness is all mate. We aren't in bad shape. Replacing any leavers will be key of course.

Hope he stays then - seems a very decent back-up and is more or less content to sit on the bench and be involved that way.

I may well be (over selling our areas of weakness) ...... it seems I'm afraid losing our best players to injury for a large part of each season has lead to extreme paranoia on that count !

Listen carefully to my voice "you will not be injured, you will not feel any pain, you will over-come" !

It wont be 'our year'.

*quietly removes crown from Spion's head*

If torres, aqua, gerrard and cole are fit for 80% of the season each we've got a damn good chance of getting bk into the top 4 - I think the title race could be a messy one this year so who knows!

I had hoped a thread like this wouldn't pop up.
I was looking forward to going into season with none of the usual 'our year' bollocks.
When the pressure is removed from the players, we might see a different side to them.
I dont think Oncy, Mamma and Whaddapie off of the internet will be piling that much pressure on the lads back at Anfield.

Why is it utter wank ?

He'd be lucky to get 15 minutes for any of the clubs we are going to have to finish above to get into the top four.
Masterbating into a bag and whanging it over the fence at Melwood doesnt count as pressure matey.
