Anyone mad enough to think this will be our year?

As August approaches its traditional for us deluded Liverpool fans to have a sudden rush of unjustified confidence that this year just maybe, against all the odds, could be our year...

On paper our 1st XI is looking pretty good...If we can get a quality LB and striker in, and replace Mascher if needed, I think we are as good as anyone.

We would also need an unusually good run of luck with injuries as most the squad players are not up to much.

Anyone out there think this could be our year? Or are we more likely to be closer to the relegation zone...Personally I think we will be good enough to get back into the Champions League.

And well, we all know the graph!

Getting back into the top four will be a massive achievement, City will be right up there this time.

I think Spurs will be distracted from the Prem by the Champions League and fall away a bit this season.

It would be crazy to think so considering our opening 5 games.

If we get through those with 3 wins then anything is possible.

We will sale into top 3 though.

Our midfield is unbalanced as we need to find a quality replacement for Masher, we have no left back, the Torres situation is still a bit of an unknown and we're lacking cover up front.

Maybe I'm being a bit negative, but I'd take a guarantee of 4th if it was offered.

"Will be", no. "Could be" - just, if every bit of luck runs our way. but ultimately I can't see it this season. We'll improve on last season though, the question being by how much. I'll stick my neck out and say we will get back in the Champions League.

*pushes pointy hat to a jaunty angle*
what do you reckon!!
Dumbledores army is back in business.

Obviously I am.

That's quite reassuring, actually. Not because I think we'll do well, but because it represents a tiny piece of consistency in what has otherwise been a rollercoaster of ups and downs these last couple of seasons.

Just getting back a top four place has to be our only realistic priority.
I said last year when the transfer window closed and we had not strengthen our strikers, and we failed to start the season without any sort of replacement for Xabi we would struggle badly to retain our top four place. When the realisation that our squad was as thin a spliff paper sank in I knew we were doomed.
I actually feel more confident at this moment in time, as I have more faith in the manager, however until the window closes and we can see exactly what we have to work with , as Kenni has intimated, it would be foolish to make any predictions at this stage , other than to say we will certainly finish higher than we did last year.
If we are to take fourth spot it means us finishing ahead of City or Arsenal, and the way things are going it is more likely to be Arsenal, which, as it stands is going to be a hell of a task.

regards

I believe that we'll be hugely underrated this season because of what happened last season. Roy is obviously not done with bringing in players and we will definately benefit from 4-4-2 especially if he brings in Huntelaar. Fitness and form of key players will be a major factor again. However, we need to hit the ground running.

One game at a time. I'm really optimistic. We can certainly sneak it.

On a serious note I wouldn't completely rule it out.

We've a feel-good factor returning to a team that is arguably close to that which accumulated 86 points the season before last - investment news would add to this.

Man utd, Chelsea and Arsenal are not adding significantly to their squads it seems.

Breakthrough years often come after a "blip" year for some bizarre reason.

I'd say 16/1 is about right for our current title odds. I've backed a good few 16/1 winners in my time.

sigh...let's just concentrate on making top 4, eh?

manu - with always be there or there abouts
chelsea - will always be there or there abouts
arsenal - shouldn't be underestimated
spurs - have the CL money to spend
man city - have spent a fortune

making the 4 four will be difficult enough let along winning the thing

I don't think anyone who'd say we have the tiniest of squeaks would argue with any of that Spidey.

A top four finish has to be our realistic target first and foremost.

We've already sold a lot of players.

Sorry but how can anyone guesstimate what will happen when we have unresolved issues all over the park ?

LB x2 / ST / DM / GK (back-up) ? Too many crucial decisions / transfers to really assess our potential just yet - but I like the progress being made.

Getting into the CL would make it 'our year'.

A good FA Cup run would be nice too.

Any team with the likes of Reina, Magic, Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Aquilani (I BELIEVE), Gerrard, Kuyt, Mascherano, Joe Cole & Fernando Torres are very likely to be contenders really.

Whether we will be so after all is a completely different matter of course but I've got - as per - a very good feeling about our chances.

Should Masher leave we will have the money to buy proper replacements even though it would be a loss. We could still come out as strong(ish) in that department. Perhaps not one player as good but maybe two who'll strengthen the overall depth in our squad.

(Torres has got to stay for me to stay this positive but I reckon he will be).

Liverpools Season 2010/2011

Pos. 1 - 3

Anything can happen.

[/quote]Our back up goalkeeper and reserve left back are hardly season breaking crucial decisions.
We need a left back. That's where we stand right now.

Agreed. And perhaps a decent back-up striker too. Wouldn't mind Huntelaar in that role one bit.

And while we're at it one of Arda Turan or Eden Hazard to create havoc in opponents penaltyareas when ColeGerrardTorres are resting.

Being a fan is all about optimism and hoping for the best. Most of us would be satisfied with a top 4 place, at least for starters. But you never know.

It never impresses me when managers say "Have patience fans, I am building a team and it will take years." This logic doesn't work in football because the situation is too fluid to treat management like putting one brick on top of another. Players get injured, players leave, new players come in and so-on.
