Bryan Robson faces fight against throat cancer

Former Manchester United and England captain Bryan Robson has undergone surgery for throat cancer.

Robson, currently coaching the Thailand national team, was in Bangkok when he had the operation on 3 March.

"Bryan underwent an operation to remove a tumour from his throat," read a Manchester United statement.

"The laboratory report revealed a cancerous tumour, which will need further treatment. The oncologist is confident the condition is treatable."

Christ. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Yup. +1

I'm sure some people have stories to the contrary but I've always had the utmost respect for Robson.

Hope he makes a quick and full recovery.

Superb player - I saw him in his very early days for the Baggies before he even went to ManUre and you could tell he was going to be big. Less than superb as a manager IMO but from what I remember he was always respectful towards us.

In any case, thoughts and prayers for the man and his family at such a time.

I only really remember him being injured and commentators talking about how good he was.

Did he smoke by the way? I know he was a big drinker.

Dont want to go the way of Alex Higgins. Good luck to him, 98% survival rate if they catch it early enough so really hope they did so its a great chance.

Still got a 50/50 chance at late stage apparently.

Great player. So good in fact, that he usually had MOM sown up before a ball was kicked. Great player nonetheless.
Speedy recovery.

I thought he was terribly overrated but I hope he recovers well.

In my opinion Doc he's right up there with the greats of any LFC/United central midfield combo and can be mentioned in the same breath as Souness, Bobby Charlton, Keane, Gerrard & Lucas.

Maybe Lucas. Maybe...

He was certainly an outstanding player - not sure he was quite the level of Souness but still outstanding. If Lucas was as good as Robson we'd have won the title a couple of times in the last 3 years. Fact!
