If he's our second choice full back,at best, how was he going to the world cup ?

fuck's sake ... commitment to the cause will cause him to miss two of the biggest events of his short career ... I hope he has many more opportunities.

Southgate worked with him in the under 21s and thinks highly of him, seeing him as a good option as cover across the back four.

Maybe Joe is building up insane reserves of good karma with all the negative stuff happening to him lately, which will ultimately result in him lifting the CL trophy or World Cup as captain or something.

Any word on Ronaldo's injury?

I heard he stubbed his toe slightly when jumping off the boat, but he should be fit and ready for another busy weekend of clubbing in Rio.

Wasn't he part of the back three for a few England friendlies ? Seemed to be a system that Southgate liked and i guess his athleticism lent itself to that role

I was expecting Clyne to finally get fit and then absolutely bust a gut to impress and bid for a World Cup place, but he's been really disappointing. I might be doing him a disservice, but from the outside he just seems one of those players who doesn't really enjoy football. He turns up for work, puts a shift in and that's it. There's no obvious pleasure in his play, no 'extra' something that you expect of players at the biggest clubs. He defends well, but that's pretty much it. When you compare him to the great tradition of right backs at the club - Lawler, Neal and Nicol etc, players who not only defended but got forward, were crafty and smart, got into the box and scored goals, too - he's a big disappointment. He's actually regressed in some ways since he joined us.

I foresaw this from day dot. It was that stupid slopey slanted haircut he had when he joined us, it set the alarm bells ringing that this was a cunt who didn't give a fuck about his own hair much less anything or anyone else.

Yeah... in the wilderness for a while, resurrected after Easter, but didn’t really ascend the way I expected.

I’m sure he’ll come back again, as we’ll need saving at some point.
Wasn't it Modo who used to complain he was useless at crosses? Or maybe KHL ..

It takes time to re-acquire some aspects of your game, but not attitude. And Clyne's actually had a fair amount of time to regain his fitness and sharpness. He's a right back, for god's sake, not a creative midfielder - he shouldn't look SO limited coming back. In fact I think he's the one player who's never really bought into Klopp's style of play. I don't think he gets it. TAA has been far, far more positive in that position, which has highlighted Clyne's limitations. Did he even get a cross in against Chelsea? His approach, before and after his injury, is to move into the opposition half, then check, turn back, and pass back or inside and jog back. That's been his game in an attacking sense. We're heavily (and predictably) reliant on the left side for attacking options when Clyne is at right back, unless Salah or another of the front three drifts out to the right to fill the gap.

Yeah I was thinking the same a few days ago, he looks borderline depressed. Would still play him at LB ahead of Moreno, obviously

Speaking of injuries, Graeme Kelly, who I have no idea whether he is any way reliable or not, suggesting on twitter that Oxlade Chamberlain is out for longer than nine months

He's no The Firm but unfortunately has been fairly reliable

fuck - that's everything in his knee gone then for that kind of injury ... sucks for him.

Doesn't matter much for us if it is 9 or 12 months. We need proper replacement anyway. Worst for the lad, as it takes a lot to get back to the Level he was at, if it ever happens. Feel sorry for him. But at least we know we have another gap to fill in CM, and we need someone With that drive. Keeping Can is more important now than ever as we are very short for good options in the engine room now.
