Reminds me of the bit in "1066 And All That" where it says that, if you kicked a dinosaur on the tail, it wouldn't feel it till the following Thursday.

It sounds like the plot of a Hollywood romantic comedy. The only thing that is missing is the ending where the guy actually realizes he loves the woman and the kid and and has to give some awful speech or do some desperate deed to convince everyone he's a changed man.
