Anfield Redevelopment

These aren't the real plans though are they- there's one which is only 50,000- what would the point of that be?

The 60,000 one says that will be the max ever capacity and will involve knocking down 3 stands. I can't see that happening.

I personally don't like this but I bet i'm in the minority.......

The redveloped one isn't so bad but the "new anfield" one is a vile thing.... i much prefered the GnH proposal.... which was about as pie in the sky as they get i spose but anyway.

Check out the new Valencia stadium, freaky looking thing, they started building it 3 or 4 years ago ran out of money and then stopped when it was about 75% done, they reckon that unlesss they start to finish the job very soon they work which has been done will become unsafe due to it being overly exposed as an unfinished building.

Cool! Right then let the debating begin. I hate these redevelopment plans (even though I know they are not official just some architects imaginings) personally I really liked the G+H ones for the new ground. That big glass wall thing looked class. This might be me though. I am an OOT who has only been to Anfield 4 or 5 times!

That site is just some dude saying what HE thinks the club COULD do. So bollocks really. The rumours coming out suggest up to 70k, 50 extra exec boxes & a new main stand & redesigned Kop. Much more likely IMO.

Going to be announced soon, Anfield road end to be redevloped with capacity down to 37,000 whilst work is done, no away fans and capacity to move to 60,000 eventually.

Thanks mate.
I assume the Annie rd end would be the first stage with the main stand and possibly the kop being redeveloped at a later stage.

A 60K capacity Anfield would be great though tickets will be hard to come by during the redevelopement.

Where the Shrek have you been ?

yeah the biggest downside of a redevelopment is the decrease in capacity while they do it . But hopefully it will be worth it , keep a link with the history and set us up for the future . I always wondered if the stadium thing would have been such an issue had we a rich owner pumping money into the team and we were winning things .

But are we allowed to have no away fans ? Surely there is some rule that states we must have an allocation for away fans . If not surely the police would enforce a no away fans policy more often , would cut out loads of problems, effort and expense .It would be shit but they'd do it if they could .

It had better be if we want to replicate what the Mancs have achieved in terms of matchday income.

The Tage has tweeted about this aswell. Yaayy!! Now it must be true...

He claims the capacity will be 66.000

yeah, just seen that. i reckon that more or less tallies with what's possible from redevelopment of anny rd and the main stand. just speculating, obviously, but to me the thing to do would be to knock down everything but the AR lower tier (would mean demolishing the main stand and the TIA sign etc, but the rumours seem to suggest the MS will be coming down so i'm running with that). i'd then build 2 proper new tiers on the AR stand, with 2 rows of boxes, to give a 3 tier stand, with around 3000 seats in each new tier, which would make a new AR capacity of approx 13,000. you could then use that stand as the model for the new main stand, which, taking into account the ratio of pitch length to width (say 1:0.65), would hold around 20,000 (north stand old trafford holds 25k as a reference).

ok, so so far that would give a new capacity of (45,000 + 20,000 + 13,000 - 12,000 - 9,000) of 57,000. filling in the corner to complete the 'bowl' (i know a lot of people hate that but to me it'd be the only way of getting such a big increase in capacity from only 2 stands) would give another 8,000 seats or so and get close to the 66k claimed capacity.

it'd be a bit like what they've done at st james park, which personally is my favourite redevelopment in football, although hopefully the new stands wouldn't be quite so out of proportion. i think whatever happens, though, the kop is going to end up being dwarfed a bit in terms of height, because i just can't see any way they can expand that; the idea of raising the angle would seem to be really expensive for the amount of seats they might be able to squeeze in, which seems pretty minimal to me.

anyway, just my 2 cents. be interesting to see if i get any of this shit right.

That sounds good, but I do hope that any such redevelopment takes into account future expansion possibilities.

I dont want Avvy II to be talking about this in 2040

I love this big shiny new stadium. It's a shame it not ever gonna happen though.
