LIVERPOOL’S £150million project to redevelop Anfield remains on track with the club hoping to submit a planning application in the spring.
Back in October, owners Fenway Sports Group announced they had shelved plans to build a new stadium in Stanley Park in favour of refurbishing the club’s current home.
It’s part of a huge Liverpool City Council led regeneration project for the Anfield area and will involve major extensions to the Main Stand and Anfield Road stand to boost the capacity to around 60,000.
Over the past three months the council have been negotiating the purchase of homes which will be demolished to make room for Anfield’s expansion.
“We are very pleased with progress,” said Reds MD Ian Ayre.
“A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes particularly with the acquisition of properties and architectural work to look at designs and plans which would be submitted for planning permission.
“We’ve got a meeting coming up in the next few weeks with the steering group which is made up of the various parties who were present when the announcement about the regeneration was made.
“Certainly in terms of milestones that we set ourselves, we are on track. We’re pleased with the way we’re heading and there’s no reason to feel anything other than optimistic.”

Yeah I know, we've heard it all before, at least this is good news though and things might be happening.

People seem all too eager to put the boot in with the owners, this shit takes time. It's better than building a fucking big model, investing millions in plans (dubiously I might add) and having a nice polished CGI video made while professing to all in-sundry that spade work was "imminent".

No announcement - they get condemned roundly, "where's the fucking stadium?"

Announcement - "Yeah whatever".

This is Ian Arye Mark. He could announce that we've signed Messi for a packet of crisps and a used condom but people wouldn't congratulation him on a job well done, they'd been calling for his head because he's wearing the wrong brand of shoes.

Good news.
Problem is they wont fill a bigger stadium with the shit they serve up as entertainment.
In the past couple of weeks ive heard adverts for tickets for Villa, Chelsea, West Ham, QPR and Norwich. Gates are dwindling and sticking 15 thousand more seats on Anfield isnt going to get bums on seats.
We need better players and a better performing team to go along with it.

Or cheaper tickets.

They've been here 2 years Mark and still no ground new or expanded. If they come up with the goods then they'll get the pat on the back. In the meantime it's lots of announcements not telling us very much.

Did people really expect them to come in and make the stadium the first priority? The stumbling block was over which way to go, redevelopment had a few hurdles, moving would have cost more than we could afford. And on top of that we needed reinvestment in the side (which we've had and pissed away), people need to get real.

But didn't Broughton say that the only buyers he'd be looking for were those that were capable of financing and could prioritise on the new Stanley Park stadium?

Part of reason for dwindling attendances maybe the recession we are in.

Increasing the capacity is having a more long term view.

Better players and better performances would be nice wouldn't it? Not holding my breath on either.
Or, we could do what they do in Germany and reduce ticket prices so more local youngsters can afford to go with their mates and create the next generation of passionate, knowledgeable fans. 60,000 at £35 would see the ground full and bring in slightly more per match day. These owners will never do that though. At Fenway they redeveloped the ground and the seat prices just go up and up and they have sold out every game (minimum 81 home games a season) since 2003. Add in the weiners, corn dogs, beer, foam fingers, snacks etc etc and they are raking it in. Helps that they show their games through their own TV company too.
This is interesting. Former Red Sox manager (most successful ever) sacked after slump says they don't really care about baseball, and are inept and selfish. So fuck knows what they think about football.

Attendances are obviously affected by lack of cash, just watch highlights of a Middlesborough game these days, no-one there. However, both Souness and Houllier came under serious threat for their jobs when the team's performances drove people away.

I seem to recall this was the case under Hodgson too, fans stayed away and made FSG act.

It's funny - the trend is that teams are making more money from TV deals than ticket sales. They'd get massive goodwill by taking a small hit on ticket prices and chances are the atmosphere might improve.

I think we'll continue to see increases in TV deals for a while since advertisers know sports are one of the few things people watch live (and therefore sit through the ads, unlike programmes we DVR) so ownership should consider a ticket price drop. Attendances are down for a lot of football teams, so expecting to buck the trend with an expensive ticket to watch a midtable team is optimistic at best.

This is our average attendance this season:
Liverpool 44,653

Doesnt look like its dwindling imho.

"Ian Ayre believes the Liverpool squad is blessed with the ideal balance of world class stars and fledgling talents"

When he comes out with corkers like this no wonder people take what he says with a pinch of salt.

He probably wears a pair of converse with his suit, not shoes.

Tis the same with any Big Cheese working for Liverpool FC.....

I was thinking back to Rick Parry's time the other day... and thought to myself how everybody always moaned about him... Looking back now he didnt do such a bad job did he!

Revenue is not only tickets, but it is also what you manage to sell people who are there. 5 pound down on ticket, with people spending 10 pounds in average would make it lucrative to put an extra 15000 inside.

Good old Rick. Luckily he spent enough time away on vacation for Rafa to get Torres, Alonso, Mascher etc.....

Everyone involved with the club says shit like that, Kenny did it for example with Downing, Gerrard with Cole etc etc

We've become ridiculous

Really? It's not a new thing, a manager or other member of staff backing their current playing staff.

Common sense is unfortunately not something business people take into consideration ...

If they lowered the ticket prices by x%, it would a) boost their image b) not cost them that much and c) probably get a lot of positive press country wide. It's a win win short term ...

You obviously didnt see the youtube clip where Downing shot the ball into garbage cans from quite a long rage!

Parry's problem was he was absolutely, criminally shit at understanding the commercial aspect of modern day business, never mind commercial football business, and his worldwide marketing, or lack thereof, was completely stupid (non-existent).
The moment G&H brought in people with an ounce of intelligence and marketing experience, our commercial revenue shot up. It simply couldn't be any worse under Parry.

I agree. For me one of the primary reasons for our stagnation when the Prem started, we should have made a zillion pounds through commercial activities. I also think he was a little corrupt in the sense of 'I'm onto a good thing here'. Did he not employ his son at the club to pretty much do fuck all?. I know he is seen as a kind of comedy figure but I really dislike that cunt.

I remember thinking it was a clever move to get Parry because he'd just set up the Premiership and was therefore ideally qualified to help us to exploit it. Wha-happened?
