Dear Tom,
Have you finally realised the damage yourself and Mr Gillet have done to our wonderful club? You came in with so many promises but have failed to honour them:
i) to wipe out the clubs debt and to put none of your own on the club
ii) a new stadium which now you are blaming on the current global financial crisis
iii) money to spend on players. Why is it that in the last 12 months we have a negative spend on players, having received more money than spent.
After finishing second last season and coming ever so close, it was essential and obvious that if the manager was allowed to spend and bring in an extra top quality player, like David Villa for example, without the loss of other players we could make this our season. Furthermore, the fact that Man United lost Ronaldo and Chelsea didn't particulary strengthen their squad, this was our big chance. Sadly we sold a right back (Arbeloa), we brought in a right back (Johnson), we sold a midfielder (Alonso), we brought in a midfielder (Aquilani - who has yet to start a game, although I blame the manager for buying such a player, not you or Mr Gillet), we sold a striker (Keane) we brought nobody in to replace.
Now that we are out of the champions league, I urge you and Mr Gillet to consider selling your stake and getting this club back on track. Difficult times lie ahead if their is no investment in January, especially with the emergence of Manchester City and Spurs as credible contenders for a top four finish in the league. If you don't sell your stake I plead for some investment in the squad.
I want to make clear that I don't blame you for everything that's going on at the moment. Rafa has to take a lot of the critics too, but it hasn't helped with the shocking way the club has been run. Still though, he should be doing better, and who knows, maybe it could and should be time for him to go too. Guus Hiddink is one the best managers around and he seems to be available. We all saw how he turned Chelsea around last season!
Something needs to be done because it is very painful, repeat, very painful at the moment for us fans. OUr season is basically over and it's not even December! Thank you for your time.
Kind Regards,
Barry O'Connor (PhD)
Here was his response
Dr O'Connor
Please examine the idiocy of the SOS claims.
The debt has been reduced to £ 200 M and will go down another 100 soon.
The stadium was finally approved Sept 08, just in time for the credit meltdown. We see the markets reopning this spring, and the new stadium is a high priority.
Christian and Rafa are doing their best.
We have less debt than any big club by far.
Injuries have been a disaster, and we are beefing up our medical staff to reduce.
We know we need depth.
Best regards,
Tom Hicks
I was surprised he actually responded, I think the fact I didn't abuse him or anything allowed this. Medical staff can't prevent injuries, a bigger squad can reduce the impact of injuries.
We have less debt than some of the other clubs, true, we were promised no debt!
