Well said Del.

It's a bit insane to expect every player to put on a LFC shirt to be a martyr for the cause regardless of anything happening around 'em. As long as they act professionally whilst they're here and give 100% on the pitch, that's all we can really ask.

I'm not taking it personally, I've already said it wasnt surprising that he wanted to leave.

I just think that any talk from him now about how Liverpool has a special place in his heart or how special the fans are is wank.

Why is it wank? He made a professional decision to leave - how does that preclude him from talking about how club and its fans affected him? Which part of it makes you think its not sincere?

Ha Fabio.

Stuff like this proper irritates me though, just get lost Alonso, you left, stop talking and tweeting about us all the time, unless you're coming back

ahh, reverse psychology... hopes it work

the truth is alonso had a (relative) dip in form, the manager tried to get rid, alonso in turn pulled his finger out of his arse and had his best ever season. he had the adulation of the crowd and the manager picked him week in week out, if alonso wants to attempt to use what happened ONE YEAR earlier as an excuse for jumping ship, so be it but he wasn't just hurting rafa he was hurting the club and hurting the fans who paid his wages for the several seasons he was here.

I've somehow warmed even more to Alonso since he left, he's one of the games real gentlemen. And I agree completely with Del's post.

I want him back.

You cant handle being 'friends' with an ex if you still feelings for them. It's understandable.

Ha Jon.

I don't see how people are friends with an ex full stop tbh.

I'm on speaking terms with a most of my ex's & I'm good friends with the two longest term ones. in one case I lived with her for a couple of years & we fell out of love, deciding to split on the same day. She's knows me as well as Bex does, not having her as a friend would be just weird. I have to admit many girls I hurt didnt want anything to do with me but I got a conscience when I was 23 & went to see each of them or called them (teh ones I could trace anyways) & made a long overdue apology. Facebook has since helped me find others, it's great for that!

It is possible, it just depends on the split & the person involved I think, if it's acrimonious it depends on the person most hurt to have the ability to forgive, & the other individual to realise their error & be prepared to ask for their friendship, or at least time to hear the apology, if not able to forgive.

This. I like Alonso, didn't want him to go and, if I'm honest, would have made one or two decisions about him differently from Rafa. All that said, he gets too easy a ride over the circs.of his departure from some folks on here and elsewhere.

i do think rafa fucked up over alonso, and we can all debate just how true the idea that he'd dipped in form is, but surely it speaks volumes that on flogging him around europe, rafa couldn't generate enough interest even to cover the cost of signing gareth barry.

i still think it reflects badly on alonso that it seemingly took this to get him back on form, and that he seemed to resent it so much that he was determined to leave the next year. that's not professional behaviour, in my eyes.

i think both benitez and alonso come out of it pretty badly, tbh.

The other week I spent 15 minutes hiding in the meat aisle in Tesco to avoid my last ex. She was a veggie

Not saying his wistful mutterings aren't sincere, I just don't give a fuck.

That ok with you?

And you were doing so well with the funnies, Neil.

Damn shame.

I thought that was a statement rather than a punchline 🙂

Didn't this all start with Rafa demanding he attend the Inter game at the San Siro even though he was on a one match ban and his first child was due that day ? Sorry but I back Xabi on saying "not happening Rafa" if any Boss asked me to go to work and not work while my wife was in labour with my first child just to show he was the boss I'd have given him the same response,Rafa was incredibly cold with the players and I think our slump began with Rafa ( I loved him but stubborn git don't even begin to cover it ) fired Paco for being chatty with the special one ? Paco was the velvet glove on Rafa's iron fist,I had a lot of time for Rafa but he shot himself in the foot with that call as far as I'm concerned and his behaviour and interviews just went downhill from that moment and before anyone says we came 2nd after Paco left that was in spite of Rafa not because of him.......Rant over ( for now ) If we could get Xabi back I would swim to Madrid to get him a Liverpool player through and through and how many of them have we seen in the last 20 years ?

I don't think Alonso was suspened. But yeah, Rafa messed up that situation.

Xabi was also below his usual standards before the though. Obviously it was still above barry's standard, but it's disappointing to me that xabi seemed to find another level when he decided to put himself in the shop window.

in the back of my mind I knew the loss of alonso would hurt us

* takes the ball off the defenders toes and distributes it (competently)
* sheilds the defense (competently)
* finds the attackers early with inch perfect passes
* when we are under the cosh he had the ability to slow the pace of the game down
* alonso also in midfield you could afford to play gerrard further forwards

I knew we'd miss that but I didn't for a second think without the above we'd descend into a utterly shambolic mess.

Well, Neil, as a "statement" that was intended to be humorous, it failed.

Again, damn shame.
