bollocks. bet we've sold him for far less than he's either worth or indeed wanted.

if it is 25 million pounds its a shockingly bad deal
my first post on the matter Mark. just check the bit i've put in bold for you
Followed by:

really just because we've been screwed by madrid for alonso for 28 million euros doesn't mean rafa's a cunt it means we've been had.

i don't remember resorting to insults with you but hey me telling you to fuck off won't change this awful transfer.

Point?
in sequence perhaps?

Yeah. I bet we gave him up for their last rolo. The useless cunts we are.

I'd be amazed if we got done on this deal.

When was the last time we were in a position to sell a good player, in great form with 3 years left on his contract ?
I think a bit of perspective is due though. Last years asking price was £15m, even if we'd have got £28m, that's still almost double last seasons asking price. We've been shrewd enough to hold our ground and capitalise on Madrid's movements so far during this transfer window, so I think we've done exceptionally well *if* the eventual fee could rise to £34m.

Under past regimes that would have been unheard of for us.

You backtrack and attempt clumsy acts of belated self-deprecating humour like Rash, too.
really? mark said i said one thing, i just highlighted my first post to show that he misinterpreted what he thought i said.

none of us would have been happy if it had been 25 million, all of us, even anita, will be overjoyed if it is 30 million pounds rising to 34.
Of course the specific figures make some difference, but I'm not happy with Alonso going because I'm not overjoyed about any of the buys we are considering. We were right to extract the maximum amount of money, but I'd much rather this never happened.

I could well be wrong, I won't pretend I've seen a lot of any of the players we've been linked to, even Aquilani, but any time you are trading in a known good, for an unknown one, it can cause problems. Especially as we were so close last year.

What we do in the next two weeks is far more important than 5 or 10 million pounds. We'll lose that same money in a heartbeat if any of the players we bring in don't do well, which happens all the time, and we'll also have no chance at winning the league if that happens as well.

i completely agree with that but also under past regimes we haven't been in such a strong bargaining position.

if anything this transfer shows is that we need to always prevent our better players from running their contract downs to anything less than 2 years.

hey i'd rather have kept alonso too. regardless of who we bring in i think our title challenge has been dealt a blow by both alonso leaving and how near the start of the season this has happened.

But although Liverpool will not reveal the details of the deal, privately sources were maintaining that manager Rafael Benitez had got his own way over the fee.

It is believed that Madrid made another attempt to end the deadlock today with an offer of £30m that will rise to £34m depending on Alonso’s success over the first two years of what is believed to be a five-year contract.

if it involves him winning titles then they can keep the 4 mill.

Yeah, which makes it all the more understandable why we're often quick to keep renewing contracts. We saw with Macca and Owen how letting ourselves get into such positions can leave us screwed. At least with Crouch last season we still manager to get top whack for him, despite him only having a year left on his contract.

I still think we sold Arbeloa on the cheap.
very much so. senderos is going for 6 mill there.

What a joke.

if it's 30 + 4....I would say that's a great bit of work.

If only Barry + Tevez hadn't joined City so early.

30 plus 4 for a 28 year old is a sublime of business. Almost three times what Viera was sold for, a few seasons ago.

Sentiment aside, it's a great piece of business IF our title challenge has not been undermined. One player is not the club, etc etc.

Just to add to this point, we'd have to replace Alonso sometime soon. Best to do it now when we can make a mint.

What a load of bollocks. All we should be thinking about is how best to win the league, especially in a season when Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd are all in transistion to various degrees and before Man City spend another fortune next year.

We could get top dollar for Gerrard now, a host of clubs would give us £40M+ whereas in a few years he'll be in decline. Get rid eh?
Why not? Sell high, buy cheap. We're running a business here.

If we keep selling our best players, we'll never win the league.

And I can't believe you thought we bought Gerrard.

Madness!!

big difference buddy. Alonso is spanish and would always return to spain. Gerrard it's not the case. And of course he's irreplaceable. but Xabi? He'd be moving on anyway, and let's get money so we can afford a replacement who's be as good for several years...and then sell and replace...

That's business...

You fucking gormless cunt.

Localny (or someone) said "we would have to sell Alonso one day, so sell him now whilst we can get the most money"
I'm making the point that we are about winning trophies not being run as a business, otherwise you could take it to it's ultimate conclusion and make the biggest profit buy selling Gerrard. Cost Nil Sell £45M+

Do you get it? Of course I don't want to sell Gerrard, Torres and didn't want to sell Alonso. Understand. I hope you aren't indicative of the poster on this forum because i hate explaining myself.
