Real Madrid has reached an agreement with Liverpool to sign the Spanish international midfielder Xabi Alonso. Madrid will pay to the English club at around 30 million including incentives for Xabi, who signed for four seasons. Liverpool have confirmed the transfer in a statement published on its website. Liverpool travel to Norway on Tuesday to compete in a friendly and when the issue was addressed by bus to the airport, the coach of the English set, Rafa Benitez, Xabi Alonso will be decided down the bus and stay in the English city.

Re: Alonso has been sold? premature?

From the offal:

Liverpool Football Club this evening confirmed they had reached agreement for the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, subject only to a medical.
The terms of the deal will remain confidential and undisclosed.

Fucking hell. Weird how it can still come as a shock after months of waiting for precisely that news. Is the undisclosed thing good news or bad news? Which team is covering up the fee, us or Real? Oh well, let's get on with life without him now.

Re: Alonso has been sold? premature?

You can change the thread title btw. If it's on the offal, it's officially official.

Re: Alonso has been sold? premature?

hopefully the undisclosed fee is so we don't get shafted when we try to buy a replacement........ and so madrid don't look like mugs.

OUr past success with them is ominous.

bollocks. bet we've sold him for far less than he's either worth or indeed wanted.

if it is 25 million pounds its a shockingly bad deal

Would anyone else feel a kinda karma if he sprained his leg during the medical or something?

Maybe it was for £47.50. In which case it's absolutely insane and outrageous. 🙁

Which didn't follow this kind of tough bargaining. Real are the ones who made such an issue of not wanting to pay - it's hardly improbable that they're the ones wanting it kept schtum. They normally don't have an unpublicised thought.

so real always shout from the rooftops everytime they've bought a player for a lot of money whilst we hide it everytime we haven't got what we want.

sorry amigo, i really hope i'm wrong but i can't see it being any different here.

bbc report looks promising

Liverpool have reached an agreement to sell midfielder Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, subject to a medical.

The fee for the Spanish international is reported to be in the region of £30m but Liverpool said the terms of the deal would remain confidential.

The 27-year-old joined Liverpool from Real Sociedad in August 2004.

A statement on Real's website confirmed the news and added that Alonso will arrive in Madrid on Wednesday "to undergo the required medical".

If the deal goes through Alonso will become the second Liverpool player to join the Spanish giants after full-back Alvaro Arbeloa's switch to the Bernabeu last week.

Real, under the guidance of returning president Florentino Perez, have embarked on an ambitious rebuilding programme this summer and Alonso's arrival will push their spending beyond the £200m mark.

Cristiano Ronaldo arrived from Manchester United in a world record £80m deal, Brazilian playmaker Kaka was bought from AC Milan for £56m and they have also spent £30m to sign France striker Karim Benzema from Lyon.

Defender Raul Albiol has also arrived from Valencia as Real have looked to build a squad capable of challenging for honours both home and abroad.

What fee are Real claiming then, big nose?
Thats precisely the point angryman.
No fucking way WOULDNT Real crow it from the rooftops if they'd screwed us to the wall. Not a chance. We've bent them over im sure of it.

And when has Madrid honoured any such agreement? They didn't honour the fact he was under contract. (And some other sites are quoting the fee at £34m. I just don't get your eagerness to think the worst about a management team that has clearly been determined NOT to be fleeced like we have done in the past.)

that's exactly my point - i think WE are more likely to have asked for the undisclosed bit.
err, i'm guessing you is a half-empty kinda guy? am i right?

Guess one thing for sure is the fee is closer to the valuation of Rafa's/our's than Real's. Don't think we would've wasted all the haggling and backed down at the last min.

Aha! I thought you'd like that one! The Italians were, as you rightly say, at the centre of this whole saga.
