The best I've seen I think was Laurent Robert. Absolutely lethal from any distance.

Ian Harte and Sinisa Mihajlovic were dead good too. And Juninho Pernambucano too of course.

Juninho ( was that his name) from Porto was the best I've ever seen.

Sensational.

No one in the league does that anymore, which is fucking nuts when you look at the empty space either side of the dead ball taker. You put a man either side capable of hitting it well, & a man either side of the ball, & it means the keeper has to worry that the ball could be passed either side or shot by either a left or right footer, meaning they have less reaction time or could end up positioned poorly.

Rush & Fowler were masters at taking those.

Yes they do when they are indirect 😛

I was watching a Gerrard goal compilation recently and there was a fair few of those goals, as described.
What really stood out, though, was for all the technique and blah blah blah, Gerrard really did kick a football very, very, very hard indeed.

Most of the long-range goals would have taken the keeper's arm off if they'd managed to get anywhere near them.

That goal against Utd at home and the one against Southampton at home.

Presently, I think Hakan Calhanoglu is the best out there. Lemar also is very dangerous.

I think the best and most consistent direct free-kick taker nowadays is Messi. It's just he's so good at many other things that he gets less credit than a pure free-kick specialist like Calhanoglu. I also think Payet and Pjanic are very good.

Among current EPL players, probably Coutinho, Eriksen and Sigurdsson are the top 3 (not sure in which order).
