... this guy:

Every sign of a superstar in the making. If our American owners have any business sense, they should recognize the potential from both sporting and marketing perspective and pay whatever it takes to bring him here before any of the big fish wakes up.

Aren't Dortmund struggling a little at the moment as well? Heard there's some discontent in terms of players not showing leadership. Pulisic being highlighted as one of only a couple who is earning his keep.

I would advocate this signing just for his nationality. 'Soccer' is on the up in the US and getting on that train with a local boy would be a shrewd move.

Pulisic would be a lot of money spent for a bench warmer. Defenders only this january please.

I watched a lot of the 2nd half of that game and it seemed like many of his teammates were hesitant to give him the ball, like he was a good 2nd option but not first. It was puzzling to me since he was always dominant or made smart decision to keep possession.

All that to say it looked like they didn't really trust him. Coupled with their generally uninspiring play lately and it could be a great time to get in his head about a move.

When we sell courtiino, we should spend all our money on this guy (after we have brought a gk and 2 centre halfs).

"Soccer" appears to be on the up in the US about once every 10-15 years, then they realise how incompatible it is with US culture:

  • the concept of not necessarily having to have a winner in every single game
  • having world or continental competitions that extend beyond the 52 states
  • not being able to have commercial breaks for 45 minutes at a time
  • offside
  • the fact that a penalty is a "penalty " and not a fucking "PK"
  • the fact it is football & not soccer (though that is a cross I also have to bear here in Ireland)
and it inevitably dies again.

I think the biggest challenge for soccer in the US is age of players. In their other sports, it is pretty commonplace for players to pay at a College level (18 - 21/22) and then graduate into the NFL/NBA etc.

Soccer is all about finding and developing youth players. I just can't think of how they could adjust so such a culture that doesn't involve college scholarships, unless they overhaul their collegiate soccer system and use that as the route in to MLS etc.

One issue they have is that unlke the other sports they have to adjust to a global market were footballers are tied down to lukrative contracts with no interest of playing in US.

I guess one option would be for MLS teams to partner up with colleges (if they don't already).

Are there going to be any goalies available in January - obviously I hope Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius are made available for anyone to buy, but realistically is there anyone we could get in?

True - I wonder if that inhibits the success of US players in Europe.. Although I think Pulisic moving to Dortmund at 16 will show to others that this is a path worth pursuing for other sport hungry kids in the US.

If there were, it would have come up in the thread about Casillas. Since it didn't, then it's probably just Casillas or nothing.

Does this lad pulisic play in goal??

Mig is starting to make me nervy again

I know the feeling. When you wake up nervy again around noon after that night out were everything seemed to just flow. But then again I was nervy until 8 the eve before and will stay nervy till I hit the bottle again. And then.... for a few hours life seem great.... Thats the kind of nervy you feel?

Wasn't the term soccer coined in England?

And the USA has 50 states not 52

Yet they'll sit through HOURS of a baseball game?! Boggles my mind!

I did once go to a baseball game in Phoenix, and actually started to enjoy it in the 9th (NINTH!!!) innings ... probably due to aforementioned availability of beer.
