I saw a rumour suggesting Juve may be interested in Riera and it got me thinking. Do we really want him to go? I'm quite happy to keep him around, especially with Flossy moving on and Jovanovic not yet in the bag.

What do you think?

I'm not against keeping him, but I'm not bothered either way.

He's very, very average most of the time, but it's difficult to advocate selling him before the likes of Insua and Lucas.

And I'd rather Babel went for £11M than Riera for £6M.

Unless we think he is good enough to be first choice we should sell him.

He moaned before about not playing, so chances are if our next manager doesn't play him then he will be moaning again.

Wouldn't disagree as far as that goes. Trouble is, we need cover in all positions and we're unlikely to be able to do better than Uncle Albert for the money he'll fetch.

Sell straight away if we get a silly offer from a newly minted Juventus or anybody else. Otherwise IMO keep unless and until we have a clear plan to replace him.

I have always thought that he wasn't the most popular figure with the other players.
On the few occasions that he scored there didn't seem to be quite the usual level of enthusiasm in going over and celebrating with him.

Serie A would suit Riera to the tee. He is distinctly average and his chronic lack of pace wouldn't be exposed over there.

Take the cash, he is a bit of a cunt anyway!

but he's free to chin Pacheco?
[/quote]

I made a point some time ago, we don't really know what went on, I think Pacheco is a great prospect , but he could just be a big-headed cheeky little fecker who deserved a dig. Also do we know this actually happened?

Riera is no world beater, but I reckon handled the right way he could deliver far more than he has done so far, and as the saying goes, we look better with him in the side.
For 7m euros I doubt if we would get anything better and better the devil you know

regards

Didn't Rafa call him a liar and say that he had it on Video? Plus i seem to remember a whole host of rumours about this before any of it came out in the media. To be fair though, i bet this sort of stuff goes on quite a bit during the season.

If the new manager can get him playing to the level that he did in his first season, then we'll have a decent player on our hands.

Keep for now.

Players will fall out. If they can put it behind them that's all that matters.

If the new manager rates Riera as a player then he should have another chance. If he is being kept as back up that's a bad idea. He's a terrible squad player.

Depends how many games he ends up playing, surely. If he's one of two or three options for LW as opposed to an outright second choice for the position, and gets games accordingly, that could work.
