Heard a quite staggering rant from His Excellency Sulzeer Campbell on the radio this morning. He's failed to get the Oxford United manager's job apparently and was raving on about how he is, and I quote, "one of the finest minds in football" and the game is missing out by not employing him.

Has there ever been, even in football, anyone whose opinion of himself was so stratospherically higher than everyone else's?

He's off his head.

Surprised he didn't throw in the fact that he's black worked against him, too.

Indeed, especially given that he did trot that one out when he previously tried and failed to stand for election as Mayor of London.

Oh that'll come.

Whilst I have no doubt there is a potential problem with black appointments within football, caused by numerous issues, not least of which being the percentages, the way the likes of Paul Ince try to make it an issue actually causes more harm than good.

He's certainly right up there with the likes of Craig Bellamy and Joey Barton in regards to the distance between their opinions about themselves and the reality.

Indeed, especially given that he did trot that one out when he previously tried and failed to stand for election as Mayor of London.

He also tried to get selected as a Tory candidate for a General Election; he once dated the hooter-tastic Kelly Hoppen and announced he was going to follow her and pursue his flair for interior design; took acting lessons in Los Angeles with a view to making it in Hollywood ('I've already been offered some obvious parts and turned them down. I want to go down the workshop track because I know how much it's going to take to become a good actor. It'll also be a test for me to tell if I'm going to like it'); and he accused the FA - oh oh - of 'institutional racism' because they failed to give him a job ('I had a lot of meetings with the FA. Then there was radio silence for three weeks. Then they just shut the door. And then they got Gary Neville involved with the first team. I could easily have done the job Neville is doing. That really hurt me big time.'). He's a strange old cove and no mistake.

I remember that time he was after sympathy because a proposed mansion tax would be expensive, him having three homes worth a combined 50 million quid. Poor the Ah Soul.

I tire of complaints from lefty liberal types - most of whom know little about football - pointing out the lack of black managers in the game and making accusations of institutional racism.

The fact is that if there were a black manager in the lower leagues who was obviously shit hot and winning trophies galore, Premier League clubs would be beating his door down in their attempts to sign him (. . . . or her - mustn't forget the ladies!)

True, but the fact that premiership owners & ceo's are almost always white men it means there's always going to be questions, regardless of the validity of your points (which I agree with).

I doubt it. Not (m)any managers make the crossover from lower leagues to premier league.

Yup, agree with that (and I'm a lefty liberal)

The idea of the Rooney rule appalls me. surely you only interview people good enough for the job?

Maybe I'm sheltered and just can't see it.

It's like Paul ince the other year bemoaning not being a premier league manager...prob because you've DONE FUCK ALL to deserve to be one
