Are you kidding?? From Rodgers post match presser.

"It's too early to say," he added. "He just had a really freak incident in the gym before coming out to training.

"He overstretched when he was trying to prevent a dumbbell from falling on his foot. He has overstretched and pulled his side.

"We'll see if that settles down over the next couple of days; but if it doesn't, we've got ample replacements now. That was why we brought in extra players, to cover us for any injuries."

Agger is the only centre back we have capable of bringing the ball out of defense, thus adding an extra person into the midfield and giving us more passing options. Something I thought we badly missed in the Swansea game. He has to play when fit.

Kolo's better on the ball IMO

Sakho looked good on the ball too. Its when he didn't have the ball that the problems occurred.

True, but I remember moments when the CB(s) had the ball mid to 3/4 towards our halfway line in the second half when I thought, christ, instead of trying that pass to a marked midfielder or going long, Agger would have waltzed into their half and laid it off to a wide player or CF.

I missed Agger's contribution, I missed Johnson's contribution (as much as he can infuriate me at times) and I certainly missed Suarez's contribution in the second half, as having him (and Coutinho) would have meant there was no way Swansea would have allowed so many of their players to move so far up the pitch.

Yep, maybe you're right, Agger was a huge miss yesterday though, hopefully that fact will humble some of his haters.

It's early days for Sakho, but not diving in is fairly basic, fundamental stuff. That was really worrying last night. He needs to learn to stay on his feet and hold players up, that's not really something he should be learning to do at 23 or however old he is.

Sakho definitely will be beasty, but he frightened the life out of me the entire game.

One thing Rodgers was told from last nights performance was not to pair Skrtel and Sakho again anytime soon. Looking aside the fact there were a gulf between them in terms of performances last night they are also far too similar for my liking, to be a good match.

Both are the aggressive type, launching into tackles, throwing themselves in where it hurts, which is important traits but it also left us rather exposed as there wasn't much composure around. Especially in the second half we dearly missed a more calm presences at the back, I thought that was quite clear.

Almost a new back-line with Wisdom slotting in at RB obviously didn't help them so they'll improve over time as a pairing I just think we'd be better off with either one of Agger or Toure alongside either one of Skrtel and Sakho.

As been said, the pairing against Southampton, baring injuries, should be Skrtel and Agger.

PS I have been very impressed with Skrtel in his two games this Season. Long may it continue.

I was worried about Sakho. You can't be diving in like that. I'll put it down to lack of minutes and an eagerness to be involved but we need to monitor it. He like being on the ball and will play it out it seems. Beast in the air and he will scare the shit out of strikers.

Skrtel needs to stay in the team. Skrtel and Agger first choice for me also. We cried out for central defender and now we have four i'd be happy to see playing.

Also wasn't Vidic poor on his debut? On was it Evra, or both? I remember them having a torrid debut against City. I'd play Sakho in the cup game against United to give him minutes.

I'm less concerned about Sakho than some of you fellas. For sure there are rough edges there which need working on, but he did some good things as well, in a difficult game in which he won't necessarily have been expecting to play. I thought it was an encouraging debut.

Rodgers will be in his element sitting down with Sakho and talking him through the DVD of the performance and then working with him on the training pitch. I'm quite optimistic he'll improve pretty rapidly. How long it takes before his English is good enough for that to happen is another matter, but he's intelligent enough to change for the better.

Ditto.

As far as this season goes though I don't agree with this Agger+Skrtle have been the best, clearly up until his injury everyone here thought Toure was the coming of the new Messiah, well I did anyway. After that Skrtel has put in back to back MoM performances (soon to be ratified according to Morse's Law) so he's #2 in my book. Then comes Agger and I thought Sakho showed great promise, technincal ability, confidence and potential ... and will surely improve and become first choice by the end of the season. We're well stocked but Skrtel+Toure have been the best performers .. though that doesn't make them the best pairing of course.

If Toure's OK playing left-sided CB they could be. Otherwise I'm sure they aren't, because Skrtel defo has to take the right side to be at his best. IMO that's a major reason why Agger needs to play as often as his form and fitness allow, at least until Sakho's fully up to speed.

Coincidentally I was just explaining to my lad last night how poor both Vidic and Evra were in their first few months at Man U.
There was a lot to like about Sakho last night though it was unfortunately balanced by a lot of bad stuff.
I would be hopeful that it was just a mixture of nerves and adjusting to a new league

I agree there's probably little chance of Agger being dropped when fit, but IMO that has bugger all to do with him being vice-captain. It's because, in addition to his ability, he's important to the overall balance of the side because he's (a) left-sided and (b) more experienced than Sakho, the other left-sided CB we've got. Even then, Rodgers won't keep him in if he isn't doing it on the field.
